미국 뉴멕시코주의 산타페 Santa Fe 출신인 잭콘돈 Zach Condon 의 솔로 뮤직 프로젝트인 베이루트 Beirut 는 2006년 데뷔앨범 Gulag Orkestar 발매에 맞춰 영국에서 활동을 시작했다. 동유럽과 발칸포크 거기에 더해 서양의 팝뮤직까지 더한 이들의 음악은 미국의 주류음악과 인디록, 월드음악에 까지 큰 영향을 끼쳤다.
현재까지 Gulag Orkestar (2006), The Flying Club Cup (2007), The Rip Tide (2011) 모두 세 장의 정규 음반을 발매하였으며 베이루트의 음악은 해외에서는 물론 국내에서도 스테디셀러로 꾸준한 사랑을 얻고 있다. .... ....

앨버커키(Albuquerque)는 뉴멕시코(New Mexico) 주에 위치한, 리오그란데 강을 끼고 있는 작은 도시다. 올해 21살의 청년이자 카니예 웨스트(Kanye West)에 이은 또 다른 대학 중퇴 뮤지션인 잭 콘돈(Zach Condon)은 여기서 10대 시절을 보냈고, 그때부터 마그네틱 필즈(The Magnetic Fields)의 영향을 받은 싸구려 로파이 레코드를 제작하고 에밀 쿠스트리차의 영화에 빠졌으며, 고등학교와 대학교를 연이어 중퇴한 뒤 유럽을 떠돌아다니며 집시 음악에 미쳐 살다가 현재는 뉴욕 브룩클린에 거주하고 있다.
