미국 뉴멕시코주의 산타페 Santa Fe 출신인 잭콘돈 Zach Condon 의 솔로 뮤직 프로젝트인 베이루트 Beirut 는 2006년 데뷔앨범 Gulag Orkestar 발매에 맞춰 영국에서 활동을 시작했다. 동유럽과 발칸포크 거기에 더해 서양의 팝뮤직까지 더한 이들의 음악은 미국의 주류음악과 인디록, 월드음악에 까지 큰 영향을 끼쳤다.
