Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you, please don't take my man Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene Please don't take him just because you can Your beauty is beyond compare With flaming locks of auburn hair With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green Your smile is like a breath of spring Your voice is soft like summer rain And I cannot compete with you, Jolene He talks about you in his sleep And there's nothing I can do to keep From crying when he calls your name, Jolene But I can easily understand How you could easily take my man But you don't know what he means to me, Jolene Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene I'm begging of you, please don't take my man Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene Please don't take him just because you can You could have your choice of men But I could never love again He's the only one for me, Jolene I had to have this talk with you My happiness depends on you And whatever you decide to do, Jolene Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene I'm begging of you, please don't take my man Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene Please don't take him even though you can Jolene, Jolene |

Hey
Did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world? And if you did, was she crying, crying? Hey If you happen to see the most beautiful girl That walked out on me Tell her I'm sorry Tell her I need my baby Oh, won't you tell her that I love her I woke up this morning Realized what I had done I stood alone in the cold gray dawn I knew I'd lost my morning sun I lost my head and I said some things Now comes the heartaches that morning brings I know I'm wrong and I couldn't see I let my world slip away from me So, hey Did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world? And if you did, was she crying, crying? Hey If you happen to see the most beautiful girl That walked out on me Tell her I'm sorry Tell her I need my baby Oh, won't you tell her that I love her If you happen to see the most beautiful girl That walked out on me Tell her I'm sorry Tell her I need my baby Oh, won't you tell her that I love her |

I beg your pardon I never
promised you a rose garden along with the sunshine there's got to be a little rain sometimes when you take you got to give so live and let live or let go I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden I could promise you things like big diamond rings but you don't find roses growing on stocks of clover so you better think it over well if sweet talking you would make it come true I'd give you the world right now on a silver platter but what would it matter so smile for a while and let's be jolly love shouldn't be so melancholy come along and share the good times while we can I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden along with the sunshine there's got to be a little rain sometimes I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden I could sing you a tune and promise you the moon but if that's what it takes to hold you I'd just as soon let you go but there's one thing I want you to know you better look before you leap still water runs deep and there won't always be someone there to pull you out and you know what I'm talkin' about so smile for a while and let's be jolly love shouldn't be so melancholy come on and share the good times while we can I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden along with the sunshine there's got to be a little rain sometimes I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden |

Sometimes it's hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man You'll have bad times, and he'll have good times Doin' things that you don't understand But if you love him, you'll forgive him Even though he's hard to understand And if you love him, oh be proud of him 'Cause after all he's just a man. Stand by your man, give him two arms to cling to And something warm to come to When nights are cold and lonely. Stand by your man, and show the world you love him Keep giving all the love you can. Stand by your man. Stand by your man, and show the world you love him Keep giving all the love you can. Stand by your man. |

Well, I was born a coal miner's daughter, In a cabin, on a hill in butcher holler, We were poor, but we had love, That's the one thing daddy made sure of, He shoveled coal to make a poor man's dollar. My daddy worked all night in the Van Lear Cole Mines, All day long in a field a-hoein' corn, Mommy rocked the babies at night, and read The Bible by the coal-oil light, And everything would start all over come break of mornin'. Daddy loved and raised 8 kids on a miner' pay, Mommy scrubbed our clothes on a wash board every day, Why, I seen her fingers bleed, to complain, there was no need, She'd smile in mommy's understanding way. In the summertime we didn't have shoes to wear, But in the winter time, we'd all get a brand new pair, From a mail-order catalog, money mad from selling a hog, Daddy all ways managed to get the money somewhere. Yeah, I'm proud to be a coal miner's daughter, I remember well, the well where I drew water, The work we done was hard, at night we'd sleep 'cause we were tired, I never thought of leavin' Butcher Holler. Well, a lot of things have changed since way back then, And it's so good to be back home again, Not much left but the floor, nothin' lives here anymore, 'Cept the memories of a coal miner's daughter. |

Busted flat in Baton Rouge,
headin' for the train, Feelin' nearly faded as my jeans. Bobby thumbed a diesel down, just before it rained; Took us all the way to New Orleans. I took my harpoon out of my dirty red bandanna, And was blowing sad while Bobby sang the blues. With them windshield wipers slappin' time, And Bobby clappin' hands, We finally sang up every song that driver knew. Freedom's just another word for nothing' left to lose: Nothin' ain't worth nothin' but it's free. Feeling good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues. Feeling good was good enough for me; Good enough for me and Bobby McGee. From the coal mines of Kentucky to the California sun, Bobby shared the secrets of my soul. Standin' right beside me, Lord, through everything I've done, Every night she kept me from the cold. Then somewhere near Salinas, Lord, I let her slip away, Lookin' for the home I hope she'll find. And I'd trade all my tomorrows for a single yesterday, Holdin' Bobby's body next to mine. Freedom's just another word for nothing' left to lose: Nothin' left is all she left for me. Feeling good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues. Buddy, that was good enough for me; Good enough for me and Bobby McGee. La da da la la na na na La da da na na. La la la da, Me and Bobby McGee. La la la la la da da da La la la da da. La la la da, Me and Bobby McGee. La la la la la na na na La la la da da. La da da da, Me and Bobby McGee. You wink your eye at every guy
Don't you know you'rere gonna cry You say hello to every Joe You're gonna know, I told you so You're everybody's baby, everybody's knockin' on your door But then one day, they're gonna say That you're nobody's baby no more Ah-ah, you'll cry when they say bye-bye Ah-ah, you're gonna cry Then dry your eyes, and quit your cryin' And be nobody's baby but mine |

Outside the rain begins and it may never end
So cry no more on the shore a dream Will take us out to sea Forever more forever more Close your eyes and dream And and you can be with me 'Neath the waves through the caves of hours Long forgotten now We're all alone we're all alone Close the window calm the light And it will be alright No need to bother now Let it out let it all begin Learn how to pretend Once a story's told It can't help but grow old Roses do lovers too So cast your seasons to the wind And hold me dear oh hold me dear Close the window calm the light And it will be alright No need to bother now Let it out let it all begin All's forgotten now We're all alone oh oh we're all alone Close the window calm the light And it will be alright No need to bother now Let it out let it all begin All's forgotten now We're all alone we're all alone Let it out let it all begin Owe it to the wind my love |

You'll cry and cry you'll try to sleep But sleep won't come the whole night through Your cheating heart will tell on you When tears come down like falling rain You'll toss around and call my name You're gonna walk the floor the way I do Your cheating heart is gonna tell on you Yes when tears come down like falling rain You'll toss around and call my name You're gonna walk the floor the way I do Your cheating heart is gonna tell on you |

(In constant sorrow all through his days)
I am the man of constant sorrow I've seen trouble all my day I bid farewell to old Kentucky The place where I was born and raised (The place where he was born and raised) hhhhggggggggggg For in this world I'm bound to ramble I have no friends to help me now (He has no friends to help him now) It's fare thee well my old lover I never expect to see you again For I'm bound to ride that northern railroad Perhaps I'll die upon this train (Perhaps he'll die upon this train) You can bury me in some deep valley For many years where I may lay Then you may learn to love another While I am sleeping in my grave (While he is sleeping in his grave) Maybe your friends think I'm just a stranger My face you'll never see no more But there is one promise that is given I'll meet you on God's golden shore (He'll meet you on God's golden shore) |

I realize the way
your eyes deceived me with tender looks that I mistook for love So take away the flowers that you gave me And send the kindness that remind me of PAPER ROSES PAPER ROSES Oh how beautiful they seemed to be But they're only imitation like you imitate your love for me ~ I thought that you would be a perfect lover You seemed so full of sweetness at the start But like the sweet red roses made of paper There is no steady sweetness in your heart PAPER ROSES PAPER ROSES Oh how beautiful they seemed to be But they're only imitation like you imitate your love for me ~ |

Why does the sun go on shining Why does the sea rush to shore Don't they know it's the end of the world Cause you don't love me anymore Why do the birds go on singing Why do the stars glow above Don't they know it's the end of the world It ended when I lost your love I wake up in the morning and I wonder Why everything's the same as it was I can't understand No I can't understand How life goes on the way it does Why does my heart go on beating Why do these eyes of mine cry Don't they know it's the end of the world It ended when you said good-bye |

From the day we met You made me forget All my fears Knew just what to say And you kissed away All my tears I knew this time I had finally found Someone to build my life around To be a lover and a friend After all my heart had put me through I knew that it was safe with you And what we had would never end Wrong again Everybody swore They'd seen this before We'd be fine And you'd come to see that you still loved me In good time And they said there's nothing you can do It's something that he's going through It happens to a lot of men And I told myself that they were right That you'd wake up and see the light And I just had to wait 'til then Wrong again And it seemed to me the pain would last My chance for happiness had passed And nothing waited 'round the bend I was sure I'd never find someone To heal the damage you had done And my poor heart would never mend Wrong again Wrong again |

It's four in the morning and once more the dawning just woke up the wanting in me
Wishing I'd never met her knowing if I forget her how much better off she would be The longer I hold on and the longer this goes on the harder that it's gonna be But it's four in the morning and once more the dawning just woke up the wanting in me I never deserved her God knows when I hurt her that's the last thing that I want to do She tries but she can't tell how she feels but I know too well what she's going through If I love her so much I don't know why I can't do the right thing and just let her be But it's four in the morning and once more the dawning just woke up the wanting in me Last night I told her this time it's all over making ten times I've told her goodbye Last night we broke up this morning I woke up and for the tenth time I'm changing my mind I saw more love in her eyes when I left her than most foolish men will ever see And it's four in the morning and once more the dawning just woke up the wanting in me It's four in the morning and once more the dawning just woke up the wanting in me |

Tonight I think I'm gonna go downtown. Tonight I think I'm gonna look around For something I couldn't see When this world was more real to me. Yeah tonight I think I'm gonna go downtown. My love, my love has gone away. My love, my love what can I say. My love would never see That this world's just not real to me And tonight I think I'm gonna go downtown. I told my love a thousand times That I can't say what's on my mind, But she would never see That this world's just not real to me And tonight I think I'm gonna go downtown. Tonight I think I'm gonna go downtown. Tonight I think I'm gonna look around For something I couldn't see When this world was more real to me. Yeah tonight I think I'm gonna go downtown. |

> Oh, oh, oh, oh
It must have been cold there in my shadow To never have sunlight on your face You were content to let me shine, that's your way You always walked a step behind So I was the one with all the glory While you were the one with all the strength A beautiful face without a name for so long A beautiful smile to hide the pain Did you ever know that you're my hero And everything I would like to be? I can fly higher than an eagle For you are the wind beneath my wings It might have appeared to go unnoticed But I've got it all here in my heart I want you to know, I know the truth, of course I know it I would be nothing without you Did you ever know that you're my hero? You're everything I wish I could be I could fly higher than an eagle For you are the wind beneath my wings Did I ever tell you you're my hero? You're everything, everything I wish I could be Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle For you are the wind beneath my wings 'Cause you are the wind beneath my wings Oh, the wind beneath my wings You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings Fly, fly, fly away, you let me fly so high Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings Fly, fly, so high against the sky So high I almost touch the sky Thank you, thank you Thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings |

This time if you want me to come back, it's up to you
But remember I won't allow the things you used to do You're gonna have to toe the mark and walk the line This time will be the last time This time if I should feel unwanted, I won't stay Each tomorrow will depend on the love you give today It's all up to you to keep in mind This time will be the last time This time should be anything like the other times This time will be the last time If this time should be anything like the other times This time will be the last time |

He said I'll love you 'til I die
She told him you'll forget in time As the years went slowly by She still preyed upon his mind. He kept her picture on his wall Went half crazy now and then He still loved her through it all Hoping she'd come back again. Found love letters by his bed Dated 19 and 62 He had underlined in red Every single, I love you. I went to see my friend today Oh, but I didn't see no tears All dressed up to go away First time I'd seen him smile in years. He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today. (Spoken) Ya' know she came to see him one last time Oh, we all wondered if she would And it kept running through my mind This time he's over her for good. (Sang) He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today... (Lyrics note: There are several lyrical versions of this song. The only difference I can find is in the 3rd verse, the 1st line. The alternate version reads Kept some letters by his bed. Another difference is in the 4th verse I went to see my friend today may be found saying I went to see him just today) |

Don't look so sad I know it's over But life goes on And this old world will keep on turning Let's just be glad We had some time To spend together There's no need to watch the bridges that we're burning Chorus Lay your head Upon my pillow Hold your warm and tender body Close to mine Hear the whisper of the raindrops Falling softly against the window And make believe you love me One more time For the good times I'll get along You'll find another But I'll be here If you should find you ever need me Don't say a word about tomorrow or forever There 'll be time enough for sadness When you leave me Chorus Lay your head Upon my pillow Hold your warm and tender body Close to mine Hear the whisper of the raindrops Falling softly against the window And make believe you love me One more time For the good times |

Everybody's going out and having fun
I'm just a fool for staying home and having none I can't get over how she set set me free oh lonesome me A bad mistake I'm making by just hanging round I know that I should have some fun and paint the town A lovesick fool is blind and just can't see oh lonesome me I'll bet she's not like me she's out and fancy free She's flirtin' with the boys with all her charms But I still love her so and brother don't you know I'd welcome her right back here in my arms Well there must be some way I can lose these lonesome blues Forget about the past and find somebody new I've thought of everything from A to Z oh lonesome me Well I'll bet she's not like me... I hear the train a comin'
It's rolling round the bend And I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when, I'm stuck in Folsom prison, and time keeps draggin' on But that train keeps a rollin' on down to San Antone.. When I was just a baby my mama told me "Son, Always be a good boy, don't ever play with guns." But I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die When I hear that whistle blowin', I hang my head and cry.. I bet there's rich folks eating in a fancy dining car They're probably drinkin' coffee and smoking big cigars. Well I know I had it coming, I know I can't be free But those people keep a movin' And that's what tortures me... Well if they freed me from this prison, If that railroad train was mine I bet I'd move it on a little farther down the line Far from Folsom prison, that's where I want to stay And I'd let that lonesome whistle blow my blues away... |

Hear that lonesome whippoorwill
He sounds too blue to fly The midnight train is whining low I'm so lonesome I could cry I've never seen a night so long When time goes crawling by The moon just went behind the clouds To hide its face and cry Did you ever see a robin weep When leaves begin to die? Like me, he's lost the will to live I'm so lonesome I could cry The silence of a falling star Lights up a purple sky And as I wonder where you are I'm so lonesome I could cry |

The Devil went down to Georgia. He was lookin' for a soul to steal.
He was in a bind 'cause he was way behind. He was willing to make a deal When he came across this young man sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot. And the Devil jumped upon a hickory stump and said "Boy, let me tell you what." "I bet you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player, too. And if you'd care to take a dare I'll make a bet with you. Now you play a pretty good fiddle, boy, but give the Devil his due. I'll bet a fiddle of gold against your soul 'cause I think I'm better than you." The boy said, "My name's Johnny, and it might be a sin, But I'll take your bet; and you're gonna regret 'cause I'm the best there's ever been." Johnny, rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard. 'Cause Hell's broke loose in Georgia and the Devil deals the cards. And if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold, But if you lose the devil gets your soul. The Devil opened up his case and he said, "I'll start this show." And fire flew from his fingertips as he rosined up his bow. And he pulled the bow across the strings and it made an evil hiss. And a band of demons joined in and it sounded something like this. When the Devil finished, Johnny said, "Well, you're pretty good ol' son, But sit down in that chair right there and let me show you how it's done." "Fire on the Mountain." Run, boys, run! The Devil's in the house of the rising sun; Chicken's in the bread pan picking out dough. Granny, does your dog bite? No, child, no. The Devil bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat. And he laid that golden fiddle on the ground at Johnny's feet. Johnny said, "Devil, just come on back if you ever wanna try again, 'Cause I've told you once--you son of a bitch--I'm the best there's ever been." And he played: "Fire on the Mountain." Run, boys, run! The Devil's in the house of the rising sun; Chicken's in the bread pan picking out dough. Granny, does your dog bite? No, child, no. |
