INTRODUCTION
레이브 컬처의 선구자. 펑크 록 서바이버. 수퍼스타 DJ. 혁신적 테크노의 거물. 영화 음악 작곡가. 어워드 수상자, 환경운동가. 정치 개혁가. 동물 애호가… 등 수많은 수식어를 갖고 있는 일렉트로니카 씬의 파이오니어 모비가 드디어 우리 곁에 돌아왔다 모비의 새 앨범 [HOTEL]은 무려 1천 만장 이상의 앨범 판매고를 기록하며 전세계 댄스 음악의 판 도를 단숨에 바꿔 놓은, 1999년작 [PLAY]와 400만장의 앨범 판매고를 올린, 2002년작 [18] 앨범 이후 3년 만에 발표하는 작품이다. 뉴욕에 있는 모비의 자택 스튜디오에서 제작된 이번 앨범은 모비가 대부분의 트랙에서 보컬을 담당했으며 여성 보컬리스트 로라 던과 드러머 스콧 프라세토가 부분적으로 참여하였다. 모비의 작품 중 유일하게 보컬 샘플링 트랙이 포함되지 않은 앨범으로 록과 소울, 디스코, 애시드 하우스 팬으로서의 그의 취향을 모두 보여준다.
목가적인 분위기의 <HOTEL INTRO>를 필두로, 짧고 강하게 맞아떨어지는 드럼과 피아노 연주가 귀에 감기는 <RAINING AGAIN>, 소울적 보컬과 록적인 곡 구성이 결합하여 풍요로운 분위기를 자아내는 <BEAUTIFUL>를 지나, 모비의 우상인 뉴 오더를 연상시키는 첫 번째 싱글 <LIFT ME UP>과 조우하게 된다. 이 곡은 일렉트로니카와 록 음악의 완벽한 조화를 이루는 트랙으로 맹목적인 군중심리로 인해 발생될 수 있는 위험성에 대한 비판을 담고 있다.그 외에도 뉴 오더의 곡을 리메이크한, 로라 던의 부드러운 보컬이 돋보이는 서정적인 발라드 곡 <TEMPTATION>, 데이빗 보위에 대한 오마쥬를 담고 있는 <SPIDER>, 몰아치는 일랙트로닉-디스코의 질주감을 담고 있는 <VERY>, 모비의 미니얼하고 딥한 퇴폐적 미학을 엿볼 수 있는 <I LIKE IT>, 특유의 감성적인 신서사이저 스트링으로 가득한 <LOVE SHOULD>, 그리고 고요한 앰비언트 사운드의 히든 트랙 <35 MINUTE>까지 총 15곡의 트랙이 담겨있다.
