Climbed up to the rooftop
cure in the form of a raindrop to take my antidote to the people below. They got wet but they didn't go home. But everybody, everybody said "Goodnight, thanks for stopping by. We're doing fine." But oh, that was a lie! Because I heard them waiting for the footsteps to fade and when they thought I was gone, it was 3 a.m., but we move on. Find me singing in the bathtub, where the walls are kind to a stuttered song. In my mind it's a critical minute--you knock and the moment's gone. Well, to what you hold, you can never hang on. But everybody, everybody said "Goodnight, thanks for stopping by, we'll be fine. But all we do is try." And the sun turns your pillow to a rock. But if I had my way, I'd just turn back the clock. Oh, let that water roll boys in the bathtub 'til I can't hear them anymore Oh, let that water roll over the voice in my head I don't need to hear you anymore you were wrong |

Can we be near?
Hands across the table. Everything in pairs. On the run, we aim for the summits and pinnacles. But when your wobbly legs tire, your mind still roams. Here comes the wheelbarrow, I'm taking you home. Please believe in my sense of direction. We're not home, but we're not lost. Oh, we can have it all. Our pet sounds and rubber souls. Let your fears go. Let your fears go. How can you tell I've been working at all? Couldn't fill a page with what I have so far. You feel splinters and glue when you grab my hand as we walk through some half-asleep neighborhood. And on your tongue, on your tongue, words lose their bearing when love empties the lungs. I'm steady enough to move. I'd like to follow you until we represent at the gates of heaven. Oh, we go through it all. The harvest and the gold rush Let your fears go. Let all your fears go. |

The sky is pale in the morning.
It's Saturday, no one is awake. In your mirrors, you have seen a giant cop car and animal eyes. Light from the roadside memorials would guide you out of the mountains. Now in some empty Roy Rogers, pull out the things in your wallet. If you should feel a connection to the name and the pictures. If you should feel a reaction, you have known love in your lifetime. Water your hands like a flower. Water your hands like a garden. Hold to your paper cup pillow. Water your hands like a flower. If you should feel a reaction, you will be home in an hour. |

I'm watching the skies fill up.
I'm losing the signal. You lose a lot of things to distance and time, but some things are always mine. Some things are always mine. We belong here. It's as clear as the lakes we're pulled from. I've been walking around with your memory because I don't know what else to do lately. I don't know what else to do lately. I heard the towns, come crackling by in an endless night. I'm watching the sky retreat. Cleveland is fading, so many miles to beat. I can relate to the gatekeepers in space. But some of them will always hate. Some of them will seal your fate. But we belong here. Clear as the lake we're pulled from. I was walking away from your memory, but I don't know where else to go lately. I don't know which way to go lately. I'm looking for something to show me. I heard a voice go steaming by in a language I can't even try to decode a line. I look to the crowded sky. |

Street lights flicker and die.
I think it's time to come inside. It's been a while. I want to hear your pointy shoes tapping on the hardwood. These empty homes we can make them good. We've got a sleeping bag, a wind-up clock and a puffy coat. For most of us, ain't a lump in our throats. We were sixteen people, setting up shop, praying that a little rain would keep us here another day. Knock, yeah, knock. We're coming to the city like we never forgot it. To wait for trees, for the cover of leaves takes more time than we've got. And I could drink the rain all day. The roof will be ours. Your hair will take hours to drain. The echo of the walls makes you loud. You're welcome to shout, but up to my ears the lightest sounds will come out. Now we're just two people living in a house. Our chimney throwing signs. The garden growing rings. And wind to carry everything. |

Is it so strange, it's trouble when the leaves change.
It makes her cold. It makes her want to interact with strangers. Her fingers on the thermostat, taking off their coats and hats, 'How are you?' I have no skills to bring this to a stop. Hugging's not a dance move. Punching's not allowed. I lost my night vision in a brawl. But in the morning the loss seemed very small. Huddle up with your boyfriend. Huddle up with your good friends who have sealed the windows. Removed the baby birds. And with one idea, took the static from your hair and the exit plan from out between your bed and box springs. Is it so strange? Am I so strange? Will it make her want to interact with strangers? |

Goodbye to the make-believe
Goodbye to the foundry Long have you pumped oxygen Into everything around me If you saw the factory You would know exactly Time machines, fringe tame freeze Which one can we reprieve? We don't see it anymore Not in this life, maybe yours We'll not come home We'll not touch ground Take me to my favorite spot And promise me they're still around What's blown up, must come down It seems a waste to grow so great Just to be put in the ground No, the earth will reject this now Goodbye battle, paper thin Money's thicker, market wins Buy the boss a frosty drink ?'s playing, hearts sink Confectionary memories Are all I have to guide me Golden leaves, union dreams What are these all worth without them? We don't argue anymore Not in this life, maybe yours Our childhood toys From the aisles made noise Took them while the captor slept Now with us they're kept Oh, let 'em die The world goes by Their home's among the dawn poised and laid to fall Without a thought at all The earth will accept them large and small Don't let it die, the world goes by I love the cold for freezing time What's the hurry? Do you mind? What goes up, must come down It seems a waste to grow so great Just to be pushed to the ground The earth's gonna turn us down There's another way out It's all around C'mon, c'mon, forward Oh, c'mon, c'mon, everyone |
