Subject : RJD2 - Dead Ringer (Definitive Jux,2002)

추상성에 갇혀버린 힙합 비트의 진정한 구원자RJD2의 첫 프러듀싱 솔로작 [Dead Ringer]는 광활한 사운드 스케이프 속에서 펼쳐지는 일종의 실험이자, 모험이었다. 하지만 그 결과는 굉장히 능글맞고 대담하다. 힙합 비트의 최신 경향이 극단적인 추상성과 자기 파괴적인 분열 양상을 띠며 과도한 프런티어 정신을 발휘하고 있는 것에 반해 RJD2은 그 정반대의 노선에서 soul 음악의 정서적 울림을 한껏 끌어다 놓은 유려한 사운드로 자신만의 독특한 입지를 구축하고 있는 것이니... 그런 의미에서 그의 전략은 영민하고 예리하며 동시에 순수하고 사심이 없다. 앱스트랙(abstract) 비트의 대명사격인 EL-P부터 시작해서 요즘의 Anticon까지 최근 힙합 사운드의 일반적인 추세가 힙합 groove 구조의 해체...
