Life is a journey filled with mystery Twisting and turning you don't know what tomorrow will Bring After each valley there is a mountain to climb Put one foot in front of the other and pretty soon you'll Find Chorus: You're feeling a little bit better You're feeling a little bit better today You're feeling a little bit better Than you were feeling yesterday Yesterday was misery filled with tears and pain And when I lay down to sleep I didn't care if I ever got Back up again But while I lay sleeping a voice came in my dream Said hang on hang on, you don't know what tomorrow May bring Chorus: Feeling a little bit better Feeling a little better Feeling a little hit better Than I was feeling yesterday Yesterday I was feeling so bad - Yesterday I was feeling so sad Yesterday I was feeling so bad But I'm feeling better today |

Chorus: In the garden of Eden We can start all over again We'll build a heaven on earth, my friends In the Garden of Eden, in the Garden of Eden God made the sea and God made the land God made woman and God made man All of the life in the galaxy Is born of the same tree; is born of the same tree What a miracle to behold Life abounds a thousandfold Opens your eyes and dare to see What is and what can be, what is and what can be Bridge: Who can explain the gift of light The magic moment that creates life What a wonder to conceive Fruit of the tree Death someday will touch us all Nothing escapes big or small But till then let's dare to be All that we can be, all that we can be Chorus |

Isn't that somethin'? Sure is nice in here, isn't it? Yeah, let it pour, I don't care, it feels so nice just being here with you." (2nd rap) "Sure looks cold outside--It's nice and warm in here. Today may seem hopeless filled with war and fear But we can change the darkness if we but persevere And if we seize this moment and cling to our belief Then I know that we can live in peace This world is such a wonder filled with so much life The land the air the ocean could be paradise And if we open up our hearts the truth is plain to see That we can all live together in peace Care for all the animals they need our help Care for all the children stop thinking of ourselves And if we work together to try for harmony Someday we will live in peace. |

I can see clouds drifting over the bay Looks like its gonna be another one of those days I can see fog rollin' over the hills I've got to find a cure for some of my ills I can feel spring changing into fall Leaving me here with nothin' at all I can hear voices from my past (my past, my past, my past) Calling me, pulling me back Chorus: Sunshine, I'm lookin' for some sunshine to come in my life One more time again Sunshine, I'm lookin' for some sunlight to brighten up my days One more time Sunshine, I'm lookin' for some sunshine to come in my life One more time again Sunshine, I'm lookin' for some sunlight to brighten up my days One more time The seasons change and change But my blues are always the same The world spins 'round and around No sooner I'm up and then I'm down Friends they come and they go Maybe they last, I don't know First here and then they're gone I feel like I just can't go on Chorus |

She grew up in America, just the girl next door Never thought to question what we were fighting for They sent her off to war and showed her death and pain And the girl next door will never be the same Chorus: Guarding her patients with a 45 Checking the wounded to make sure they're alive By day she's in fatigues and at night she's in a dress She's everybody's savior, the Army combat nurse She told her girlfriends "I'll see you some old day I've joined the Army and they're sending me away" They taught her how to mend a wound and how to tend The sick But nothing could prepare her for all this Bridge: Women at home waiting all alone Women in life trying to do what's right Women in war in the blood and gore Women in death, they die just like the rest A jungle ain't a place for a girl to be alone Surrounded by the enemy with all the soldiers gone Under attack you know she's got to do her best Because she's everybody's savior, the Army combat nurse Back home in civilian life, Army life all done Childhood friends can't understand why she's not any fun But a vision of the wounded still screams inside her brain And the girl next door will never be the same She's everybody's savior but her own, the Army combat Nurse, but who will save her now? I got out of school and I was feeling kinda down, I thought I'd join the Army just to take a look around. I went on down to the recruiter man And that's when all my troubles began. Well, I've been up, down and around This country more than a couple of times, But I never knew until I got into the Army That thinking for yourself was a crime. Get over here, stand over there, Let's see your identification. Shut your mouth, son, get back in line, We're sending you to South East Asia. Well, they gave me some shoes that hurt my feet They gave me some food not fit to eat, They told me that I wasn't fighting alone, They sent me to Saigon and they stayed home. Well, I've been up, down and around This country more than a couple of times, But I never knew until I got into the Army That thinking for yourself was a crime. Get over here, stand over there, Let's see your identification. Shut your mouth, son, get back in line, We're sending you to South East Asia. All right. One, two, three, four, We don't want your fuckin' war, A, B, C, D, Get someone else, hey don't get me, Left, right, left, right, You know the whole damn thing puts me uptight. I done my duty and I fought my fight And I thought I knew I was doing right, But that's all over, I'm free at last, An' if they want any more, they can kiss my ass. 'Cause I've been up and down and around This country more than a couple of times, But I never knew until I got into the Army That thinking for yourself was a crime. Get over here, stand over there, Let's see your identification. Shut your mouth, son, get back in line, We're sending you to South East Asia ? like hell. |

Every time in the world someone receives first aid You can thank clara barton for the life that is saved She lived out her life in a world ruled by men Every time they knocked her down she got back up again Clara barton Civil war veterans with tears in their eyes Told how she braved the battle lust to save their lives She never ran from the shot and the shell Bringing aid and comfort in the midst of hell And even then at the war's very end When the prisoners were lost and without friends She helped families to find those that they loved A professional angel sent from up above Thank the lord for clara barton and long live her name The american red cross is her claim to fame. When you see a red cross worker in a time of flood or war Take a moment to remember and thank the lord for clara barton. |

Out on the tundra the lions play their little games Of life and death And while the father lay sleeping the mother lies near With cubs at her breast It's not what you do Not what you say Eunicita believes in life before death Small pieces of my heart fall to the ground for All to see Who cares for me? Who cares for me? The picture frame spins round and round my face I've lost the place I used to go all by myself He stands alone, the rocks and trees have all blown away The sands burn his feet There are precious stones, things which a man could use To make his fortune But he does not see, for his mind is now In other places |

I went to the psychic reader to have my fortune told. I went to the psychic reader to have my fortune told. Said son no need to worry your love's as good as gold. It's a mighty hard row that my poor hands has hoed My poor feet has traveled a hot dusty road Out of your dustbowl and westward we rode And your deserts was hot and your mountains was cold. I worked in your orchards of peaches and prunes I slept on the ground in the light of the moon On the edge of the city you'll see us and then We come with the dust and we go with the wind. California, Arizona, I make all your crops Well it's up north to Oregon to gather your hops, Dig the beets from your ground, cut the grapes from your vine To set on your table your light sparkling wine. Green pastures of plenty from dry desert ground From the Grand Coulee Dam where the waters run down Every state in this Union us migrants has been We'll work in this fight and we'll fight till we win. It's always we ramble that river and I All along your green valley I will work until I die. My land I'll defend with my life if need be 'Cause my pastures of plenty must always be free. |

Come gather round me children, A story I will tell About Pretty Boy Floyd the outlaw, Oklahoma knew him well. It was in the town of Shawnee, It was a Saturday afternoon, His wife beside him in the wagon As into town they rode. There a deputy sheriff approached him In a manner rather rude Using vulgar words of language And his wife she overheard. Pretty Boy grabbed a log chain And the deputy grabbed a gun And in the fight that followed He laid that deputy down. Then he took to the trees and timbers And he lived a life of shame, Every crime in Oklahoma Was added to his name. Yes he took to the trees and timbers On that Canadian River's shore And Pretty Boy found a welcome At many a farmer's door. There's many a starving farmer The same old story told How the outlaw paid their mortgage And saved their little home. Mothers tell you 'bout a stranger That came to beg a meal And underneath his napkin Left a thousand dollar bill. Now as through the world I ramble I see lots of funny men Some will rob you with a six-gun Some with a fountain pen. But as through life you travel, Yes, as through life you roam, You'll never see an outlaw Drive a family from their home. |

Have you heard of the ship called the good Reuben James ? Manned by hard fighting men of both honor and fame She flew the Stars and Stripes of the Land of the Free But tonight she's in her grave at the bottom of the sea. Tell me what were their names, tell me what were their names, Did you have a friend on the good Reuben James ? What were their names, tell me what were their names, Did you have a friend on the good Reuben James ? 'Twas there in the dark of that uncertain night That we watched for the U-boats and waited for a fight. Then a whine and a rock and a great explosion roar And they laid the Reuben James on the cold ocean floor. Tell me what were their names, tell me what were their names, Did you have a friend on the good Reuben James ? What were their names, tell me what were their names, Did you have a friend on the good Reuben James ? Now tonight there are lights in our country so bright. In the farms and the cities they are telling of this fight. Now our mighty battleships will steam the bounding main And remember the name of the good Reuben James. Tell me what were their names, what were their names, Did you have a friend on the good Reuben James ? What were their names, tell me what were their names, Did you have a friend on the good Reuben James ? |

As I went walking that ribbon of highway I saw above me that endless skyway I saw below me that golden valley This land was made for you and me. This land is your land, this land is my land From California to the New York Island From the Redwood Forest to the Gulfstream waters This land was made for you and me. I roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts And all around me a voice was sounding "This land was made for you and me". Tom Joad got out of that old McAlester pen 'Twas there that he got his parole After four long years on a man killing charge Tom Joad came a-walking down the road, poor boy, Tom Joad came a-walking down the road. It was there that he found him a truck driving man, It was there that he caught him a ride. He said, "I just got loose from McAlester pen On a charge called homicide, great God, A charge called homicide." The truck rolled away in a big cloud of dust And Tommy turned his face towards home. He met Preacher Casey and they had a little drink And he found out his family they was gone, Tom Joad, He found out his family they was gone. He found his mother's old-fashioned shoes He found his daddy's hat He found little Muley and little Muley said, "They've been tractored out by the cats, Tom, They've been tractored out by the cats." Then Tom he walked to the neighboring farm, He found his family. They took Preacher Casey and they loaded in the car And his mama said, "We got to get away, Tom." His mama said, "We got to get away". The twelve of the Joads made a mighty heavy load And grandpa Joad, he cried. He picked up a handful of land in his hand, He said, "I'm sticking with my farm until I die." He said, "I'm sticking with my farm until I die." They fed him spare ribs and coffee and soothing syrup And grandpa Joad, he died. We buried grandpa Joad on the Oklahoma road And grandma on the California side And grandma on the California side. We stood on a mountain and we looked to the West, It looked like the Promised Land. Was a big green valley with a river running through And there was work for every single hand, we thought, Work for every single hand. The Joads rolled in to the Jungle Camp, It was there that they cooked them a stew And the hungry little kids in the Jungle Camp Said, "We'd like to have some, too, Yes, we'd like to have some, too." A deputy sheriff fired loose at a man, He shot a woman in the back, But before he could take his aim again It was Preacher Casey dropped him in his tracks, Good boy, Preacher Casey dropped him in his tracks. Well, they handcuffed Casey and they took him to jail And then he got away. He met Tom Joad by the old river bridge And these few words he did say, Preacher Casey, These few words he did say: "Well, I preached for the Lord a mighty long time, I preached about the rich and the poor, But us workin' folks has got to stick together Or we ain't got a chance anymore, God knows, We ain't got a chance anymore." Then the deputies come and Tom and Casey run To the place where the water run down And the vigilante bug hit Casey with a club And he laid Preacher Casey on the ground And he laid Preacher Casey on the ground. Tom Joad he grabbed the deputy's club, He banged it down on his head When Tommy took flight in that dark and rainy night Was a preacher and a deputy lying dead, two men, A preacher and a deputy lying dead. Tommy went back to where his mama was asleep, He woke her up out of bed. He kissed goodbye to the mother that he loved And he said what Preacher Casey said, Tom Joad, He said what Preacher Casey said. Everybody might be just one big soul It looks that-a way to me So everywhere you look in the day or night That's where I'm gonna be, Ma, That's where I'm gonna be. Wherever little kids are hungry and cry, Wherever people ain't free, Wherever men are fighting for their rights That's where I'm gonna be, Ma, That's where I'm gonna be. |

Oh the lonesomest sound, boys I ever heard sound, boys, On the stroke of midnight Hear the curfew blow. My body will hang, boys, On the hangman's rope, boys, On the gallows pole, boys, When the curfew blows. Hear the curfew blowin' Hear the curfew blowin' In the cold black midnight Hear the curfew blow. The sheriff's men, boys, Are on my trail, boys, In the midnight wind, boys, Hear the curfew blow. And when they catch me My body will hang, boys, On the gallows pole, boys, When the curfew blows. Hear the curfew blowin' Hear the curfew blowin' In the cold black midnight Hear the curfew blow. I never really knew Woody Guthrie, but I can't help to feel that somehow I always knew Woody. This record is a collection of songs I just naturally learned and loved in my early years of playing and singing. Woody said that he wanted to be known as "the man who told you something you already knew". And for me, this is a clue into the beauty and the genius of Woody Guthrie. For he was just an ordinary man ? he made all the mistakes, had all the vices, all the good and the bad things that every ordinary person has. He never gave you the feeling that he was better than you in anyway, and he never gave you the feeling that he was worse than you ? but that he loved you because you were just like him, he was just like you. Somehow without thinking he capped the reality and the dream of what it meant to be an american. |

I spent a big rock concert in uh Canada, I can't remember the name of the place. The audience was pretty good, there was about 20,000 people in this huge stadium you know. There's this-a hippy-type with a big, big beard and long hair sitting down I don't know about twenty-five feet away from me on the stage, you know, and uh, during that he was like... he's goin' like this, yuh know, he's yellin' "Right on, right on, right on!" y'know, till I got to 'bout Chairman Mao and he went like this... Everyone has his limits, you know. OK. Here's another song about revolution, you know. |

We served our time It wasn't so fine Though we just ignored The things could be better So we lived by the ladder Like a T.V. show, And living in shame There's no one to blame For what you're feeling inside. Thank God that's over, Hey coming closer now Let's go for a ride. Oh my my I never knew that I could fly do high. My sweet lover, there goes our cover And you're sucking me inside now Starting this night, yeah. And floating back down I can hear the sound 0f your breath in my ear The smell of your hair I feel you're all there And I'm all here. And lying so closely I know that mostly It was just foolish pride. Thank God that's over, Hey coming closer now Let's take a ride. Oh my my I never knew that I could fly so high. My sweet lover, there goes our cover And you're sucking me inside now Starting this night, yeah. Now here's a little song you could song in a shower. If you wanna sing along, please join in. |

Oh brothers and sisters come on and join the army We've got to help each other throw away our chains. Come on and make revolution ? join the people's army If we stand together we'll all be free some day. Shut your mouth, son, get back in line, We're sending you to South East Asia ? like hell. |

They've covered the city with a plastic dome So the air inside could be clean, And it's really fine in our new home We have everything we need. There are no planes, no buses or trains And if you wanna go somewhere, Just think about where you'd like to be at And before you know it you're there. Living in the future in a plastic dome Sounds mighty strange I agree, But now I call it home sweet home That's where I long to be, yeah, Living in the future in a plastic dome Sounds mighty strange I agree, But now I call it home sweet home That's where I long to be. Now if you're hungry for food or drink Just go to the teller machine; You place your order and you just have to think And look at the video screen. But if you're lonesome and you think you would Like to have a friendly chat, Just talk to the teller machine And the teller machine will talk back. Hey, living in the future in a plastic dome Sounds mighty strange I agree, But now I call it home sweet home That's where I long to be, yeah, Living in the future in a plastic dome Sounds mighty strange I agree, But now I call it home sweet home That's where I long to be. |

Sweet Marie, You know that she's the only one I'll ever love, Sweet Marie. Sweet Marie, You know that she's the only one I'm thinking of, Sweet Marie. And at night When the moon and stars are shinin' bright I'll see my baby, Don't mean maybe, Talk about my sweet Marie, yeah. Do dee do do da da da D-do do do Yes indeed oh she's my sweetie. Do do do do D-da da da da D-da da da da da da da. Way down in Nirvana I met a girl named Sylvana, She used to be the vamp of New Orleans. And when she did the samba I did think that I had an order But it's not exactly as it seems. She held me close and told me things I'd never heard a woman Say before now Don't get sober That was on my mind yeah. Dee dee dee ... do da da. Just ... like in the past six months I've been doing a lot of uh... stuff for the G.I. movement, you know, performances and things, and this is a song that I particularly wrote for y'know G.I.'s. that expresses the sentiments of most G.I.'s I think... it's called "Kiss My Ass". |

Alright, 1, 2; 1, 2, 3. Late last night I was watchin' the tube When I saw the most incredible thing They built a new mechanical man Looked just like a human being. I started to become terrified, Good God it was makin' me sick And then I began to realize It was no one but Tricky Dick. Yes, it was Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda Hip hip hip hurrah. Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda Hip hip hip hurrah. He walks and he talks, he smiles, he frowns, He does what a human can, It was Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda, The genuine plastic man. There is no can't in American Or so we once could say But now our boys won't fight no more To bring us victory. Where are the mountain majesties Above the fruited plains ? Who will come to lead us In our hour of pain ? Why it's Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda Hip hip hip hurrah. It's Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda Hip hip hip hurrah. He walks and he talks, he smiles, he frowns, He does what a human can, He's Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda, The genuine plastic man, hey! Oh my God, it's terrible Here in the U.S.A. The water's polluted, the economy's crashing And can someone save the day ? The war keeps going on and on And the kids won't respect the cops, It's even said that God is dead, When will it ever stop ? Hey, it's Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda Hip hip hip hurrah. Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda Hip hip hip hurrah. He walks, he talks, he smiles, he frowns, He does what a human can, He's Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda, The genuine plastic man. And across the garbaged highways From the oil-drenched plains Now we'll see a victory, America shall rise again. Past the word that the buffalo heard To the home of the free and the brave, He's Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda Hip hip hip hurrah. Well, it's Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda Hip hip hip hurrah. Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda Hip hip hip hurrah. He walks, he talks, he smiles, he frowns, He does what a human can, He's Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda, The genuine plastic man, oh yeah, He's the genuine plastic man, oh yeah, He's the genuine plastic man. |

Gimme an F! F! Thank you. About two years ago, I stayed with the Fish, we played Worcester, Massachusetts and... did the Fuck like we usually do, I did, and nothing particularly strange happened, then we went to Boston to play the Boston Garden the next day. What we didn't know was that the Worcester police had called the Boston police and told 'em we were coming. And uh when we got there we met by seventy-five uniform police officers with guns, clubs and mace and three, er, lieutenants and a captain, twenty-five plainclothes men, a guy in trench-coat, three squad cars and a paddy wagon. And uh, they wanted to know er ... where I was, they finally found me and er... the captain said to me that he wanted me to know this wasn't Worcester, you know, I told him I knew that, I knew it was Boston. He said, "Well uh, we're just warnin' to tell you not to say it here." I said "What's it ?" And he said: "You know what I mean." I said, "No I, I don't know what you mean." He said, "Yeah, you know what I mean." I said, "No, I don't know what you mean." He said, "Yeah, you know what I mean." I said, "No, I don't know what you mean." So the lieutenant took me aside to explain me what's happening, you know, and he said, "Don't say it here." And I said "What's it ?" He said: "You know what I mean." I said, "No, I don't know what you mean." He said: "Yeah, you know what I mean." We did that for a long time, you know. I knew what they meant, you know, but I wanted to hear 'em say it, but I didn't know, it was my own ignorance, 'cause I didn't know at that particular time they have a national law that cops can't say 'fuck' on duty. Oh, so finally the Captain said that if we did anything that they didn't like they'd be certainly takin' us to jail. So I said, "I know what you mean." We got on stage there was thirty cops over here parade rest, thirty cops over here parade rest, the Captain walked back and forth, back and forth watchin' us you know, behind us was twenty-five plainclothes men and a guy in trench coat, I don't know if they were plainclothes men or not, you know, but it's the only concert I ever played with twenty-five guys who were all looking like... standing behind me, you know, and we didn't say 'fuck' that night 'cause uh we weren't feeling masochistic, you know, and uh so after it was all over with... they thanked us a lot, said we can come back anytime we want ed to... we said 'Fuck you!'. |

When my grandpa was a boy He went down to the general store Saw a picture book of a whale Shooting its spout and flashin' its tail. Then he got a sailor's dream 'Bout cruisin' around on the salty sea Joinin' up with a fishin' crew To go out and get him a whale or two. Tell me what kind of men are these Who sail upon the salty seas ? Up in the rigging in the afternoon Swabbin' the decks and sharpenin' harpoons. Hooray and up she rises Hooray and up she rises Hooray and up she rises Early in the morning. There're lots of whales in the deep blue sea, We kill them for the company We drag 'em 'longside and chop 'em in two And melt 'em down and sell 'em to you There hardly is a sailor alive Who can keep the tears from his eyes As he remembers the good old days When there were no whales to save Thank the Russians and Japanese For scouring the deep blue seas Looking for ivory and perfume And plastic toys and pet food. Hooray and up she rises Hooray and up she rises Hooray and up she rises Early in the morning. Shanghaied by the light of the moon Put out from Boston in the middle of June After six months out at sea It's nothin' but death and misery. Set out on a three-year cruise A union ship and a union crew And after six months you begin to see That whalin's not what it used to be. A modern ship and a modern crew With sonar scopes and explodin' harpoons A mechanical boat made outta steel A floating machine built to kill the whales. Hooray and up she rises Hooray and up she rises Hooray and up she rises Early in the morning. When my grandpa was a boy He went down to the general store Saw a picture book of a whale Shooting its spout and flashin' its tail. Then he got a sailor's dream 'Bout cruisin' around on the salty sea Joinin' up with a fishin' crew To go out and get him a whale or two.
