I saved a lot of money my fortune was untold
And like a fool I idealized my silver and my gold My earthly treasure's mounted but when I counted through I realized the treasure I had overlooked was you My treasure unmeasured but forsaken of the treasures that come from above My treasure unmeasured but it don't hold a heart of the one that I love If I had my life before me if I could see it all I'd stake my claim on things that are secured against downfall I'd work for earthly treasures like any man would do But I set my sights much higher and I'd be sure that I had you My treasure unmeasured unmeasured... |

Well the drums rolled off in my forehead
and the guns went off in my chest Remember carrying the baby for you Crying in the wilderness I lost track of my friends, I lost my kin I cut them off as limbs I drove out over the flatlands hunting down you and him The sky was big and empty My chest filled to explode I yelled my insides out at the sun At the wide open road it's a wide open road, it's a wide open road How do you think it feels sleeping by yourself? when the one you love, the one you love is with someone else Then it's a wide open road It's a wide open road And now you can go any place that you ever wanted to go I wake up in the morning thinking I'm still by your side I reach out just to touch you then I realise It's a wide open road It's a wide open road |

I hear the train a comin'
It's rolling round the bend And I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when, I'm stuck in Folsom prison, and time keeps draggin' on But that train keeps a rollin' on down to San Antone.. When I was just a baby my mama told me "Son, Always be a good boy, don't ever play with guns." But I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die When I hear that whistle blowin', I hang my head and cry.. I bet there's rich folks eating in a fancy dining car They're probably drinkin' coffee and smoking big cigars. Well I know I had it coming, I know I can't be free But those people keep a movin' And that's what tortures me... Well if they freed me from this prison, If that railroad train was mine I bet I'd move it on a little farther down the line Far from Folsom prison, that's where I want to stay And I'd let that lonesome whistle blow my blues away... |

Hey porter! Hey porter!
Would you tell me the time? How much longer will it be till we cross that Mason Dixon Line? At daylight would ya tell that engineer to slow it down? Or better still, just stop the train, Cause I wanna look around. Hey porter! Hey porter! What time did ya say? How much longer will it be till I can see the light of day? When we hit Dixie will you tell that engineer to ring his bell? And ask everybody that ain't asleep to stand right up and yell. Hey porter! Hey porter! It's getting light outside. This old train is puffin' smoke, and I have to strain my eyes. But ask that engineer if he will blow his whistle please. Cause I smell frost on cotton leaves and I feel that Southern breeze. Hey porter! Hey porter! Please get my bags for me. I need nobody to tell me now that we're in Tennessee. Go tell that engineer to make that lonesome whistle scream, We're not so far from home so take it easy on the steam. Hey porter! Hey porter! Please open up the door. When they stop the train I'm gonna get off first Cause I can't wait no more. Tell that engineer I said thanks alot, and I didn't mind the fare. I'm gonna set my feet on Southern soil and breathe that Southern air. |

The season for the rodeo is over
And he's usually back home this time of year But I haven't heard a word since He called me from Santa Fe Something in his voice said you were stealing him away New Mexico - have i lost him to your sunset Do your mountains life him higher than my love New Mexico - guess we'll have to wait and see If tomorrow's gonna bring him back to me He said he'd never seen a place more beautiful And he talked of maybe moving there someday Where the stars in the sky shine like diamonds every night I wonder if he sees those stars in someone else's eyes New Mexico - have i lost him to your sunset Do your mountains life him higher than my love New Mexico - guess we'll have to wait and see If tomorrow's gonna bring him back to me |

I saw you walking by his side heard you whisper all those lies
And I couldn't keep from crying You sang him love songs tenderly that should have been for you and me And I couldn't keep from crying I saw his eyes drinking your charms while he held you in his arms Him with all his wedding ways rules your heart now in my place I stood and watched him steal a kiss from two lips I know I'll miss And I couldn't keep from crying [ steel ] I saw his eyes drinking your charms... |

A ship came in, but it was empty;
And then it sailed back out to sea again. Now there's the sail on the horizon, And now I wait until your ship comes in. And I'll be waiting in the port of lonely hearts, Watchin' for your topsail on the sea. Prayin' that my ship of love will come To the port of lonely hearts where I will be. I'll brave the storm until you're with me, Cause wind and rain can't change a love that's true. I'll be alone until you anchor and then I'll leave this lonely port with you. Till then I'm waiting in the port of lonely hearts, Watchin' for your topsail on the sea. Prayin' that my ship of love will come To the port of lonely hearts where I will be. |

Well I took my Ruby jukin'
On the out-skirts of town She took her high heels off And rolled her stockings down She put a quarter in the jukebox To get a little beat Everybody started watchin' All the rhythm in her feet She's my rock'n'roll Ruby, rock'n'roll Rock'n'roll Ruby, rock'n'roll When Ruby starts a-rockin' Boy it satisfies my soul Now Ruby started rockin' 'bout one o'clock And when she started rockin' She just couldn't stop She rocked on the tables And rolled on the floor And Everybody yelled: "Ruby rock some more!" She's my rock'n'roll Ruby, rock'n'roll Rock'n'roll Ruby, rock'n'roll When Ruby starts a-rockin' Boy it satisfies my soul It was 'round about four I thought she would stop She looked at me and then She looked at the clock She said: "Wait a minute Daddy Now don't get sour All I want to do Is rock a little bit more" She's my rock'n'roll Ruby, rock'n'roll Rock'n'roll Ruby, rock'n'roll When Ruby starts a-rockin' Boy it satisfies my soul One night my Ruby left me all alone I tried to contact her on the telephone I finally found her about twelve o'clock She said: "Leave me alone Daddy 'cause your Ruby wants to rock" She's my rock'n'roll Ruby, rock'n'roll Rock'n'roll Ruby, rock'n'roll When Ruby starts a-rockin' Boy it satisfies my soul Rock, rock, rock'n'roll Rock, rock, rock'n'roll Rock, rock, rock'n'roll Rock, rock, rock'n'roll When Ruby starts a-rockin' Boy it satisfies my soul |

Hey, get rhythm!
When you get the blues! C'mon get rhythm! When you get the blues! Get a rock and roll feeling in your bones, Put taps on your toes, and get goin' Get rhythm! When you get the blues! A little shoe-shine boy he never gets low-down, But he's got the dirtiest job in town! Bending low at the peoples' feet, On a windy corner of a dirty street. Well, I asked him while she shined my shoes, How'd he keep from getting the blues. He grinned as he raised his little head, He popped a shoe-shine rag, and he said Get rhythm! When you get the blues! C'mon get rhythm! When you get the blues! A jumpy rhythm makes you feel so fine, It'll shake all your troubles from your worried mind. Get rhythm! When you get the blues! Get rhythm! When you get the blues! C'mon get rhythm! When you get the blues! Get a rock and roll feeling in your bones, Put taps on your toes, and get goin' Get rhythm! When you get the blues! Well, I had to listen to the shoe-shine boy, And I thought I was gonna jump for joy! Slapped on the shoe polish left and right, He took a shoe-shine rag and he held it tight. He stopped once to wipe the sweat away, I said, you're a mighty little boy to be a-workin' that way! He said I like it, with a big wide grin, Kept on a-poppin' and he said again, Get rhythm! When you get the blues! C'mon get rhythm! When you get the blues! It only costs a dime, just a nickel a shoe. It does a million dollars worth of good for you. Get rhythm! When you get the blues! |

Train of love's a-comin', big black wheels a-hummin'
People waitin' at the station, happy hearts are drummin' Trainman tell me maybe, ain't you got my baby Every so often everybody's baby gets the urge to roam But everybody's baby but mine's comin' home. Now stop your whistle blowin', 'cause I got ways of knowin' Your bringin' other people's lovers, but my own keeps goin' Train of love's deceivin', when she's not gone she's leavin' Every so often everybody's baby gets the urge to roam But everybody's baby but mine's comin' home Train of love's now hastin', sweethearts standin' waitin' Here and there and everywhere, there's going to be embracin' Trainman tell me maybe, ain't you got my baby Every so often everybody's baby gets the urge to roam But everybody's baby but mine's comin' home Train of love's a-leavin', leavin' my heart grievin' But early or late, I sit and wait, because I'm still believin' We'll walk away together, though I may wait forever Every so often everybody's baby gets the urge to roam But everybody's baby but mine's comin' home |

You're gonna break another heart, you're gonna tell another lie
Well here I am and there you go, you're gone again I know you're gonna be the way you've always been Breakin' hearts and tellin' lies is all you know Another guy gives you the eye and there you go There you go, you're gone again I should have known, I couldn't win There you go, you're by his side You're gonna break another heart, you're gonna tell another lie Because I love you so I take much more than I should take I want you even though I know my heart is gonna break You build me up and for a while I'm all a-glow Then your fickle heart sees someone else and there you go Thre you go, you're gone again I should have known, I couldn't win There you go, you're by his side You're gonna break another heart, you're gonna tell another lie |

I long for the trip I don't need no grip I'm takin' one more ride
Way out there in the prairie air I guess it's in my hide For the clickety clack of the railroad track is callin' If a man can know where the Santa Fe goes when she gets under steam And the big loud bell that bongs farewell could hear her whistle scream He's bound to go where there ain't no snow a-fallin' One more ride One more ride I miss the gloom of the prairie moon that seemed to know my name And the tumbleweed where the prairie dogs feed I miss them just the same They're all a part of a song of heart I'm sayin' I recall the tune that I sang to the moon and it seemed to make it smile And I rode away at the close of the day and I stayed so long awhile But I long to be where the memory is ringing One more ride One more ride As the years go by I wonder why I longed to leave my home And to hit the trail of the iron rail way out there alone But my heart would sigh 'til I know that I am leavin' If I don't come back on a one-way track way down from Mexico You can find me there or any old where that a tumbleweed will grow It's goodbye now you'll never know how I'm grievin' One more ride One more ride One more ride One more ride |

I love you because you understand dear
Every little thing I try to do Your always there to lend a helping hand dear But most of all I love you cause you're you No matter what may be the style or season I know your love will always see me through I love you for a hundred- thousand reasons But most of all I love you cause you're you I love you because my heart is lighter Every time I'm walking by your side I love you because the future's brighter The glow to happiness you've opened wide No matter what the world may say about me I know your heart will always be true I love you for the way you never doubt me But most of all I love you cause you're you |

Well a readin' and a writin' and 'rithmetic never did get through to me
It ain't because I'm square or thick cause I learned my ABC's But when I graduated from the grammar school and I moved one grade above I began to be a snook at books but I made straight A's in love Now the teacher would say to learn your algebra but I'd bring name C's and D's How could I make an A when there's a swingin' maid On the left and on the right and in the back and the front of me Oh my grades are low on my card I know but they oughta give me one above If I made a mark for learnin' in the dark I'd have straight A's in love Now in my senior year with graduation near I did my home work every night And when my mama said I oughta go to bed I'd turn out all the lights But my sweetic pie was waitin' right outside she'd be a cooin' like a dove Though I did my beat I made some mess o'test but I made straight A's in love Now the teacher would say to learn your algebra but I'd bring name C's and D's How could I make an A when there's a swingin' maid On the left and on the right and in the back and the front of me Oh my grades are low on my card I know but they oughta give me one above If I made a mark for learnin' in the dark I'd have straight A's in love |
