The old hometown looks the same
as I step down from the train And there to meet me is my mama and papa And down the road I look and there runs Mary her golden lips like cherries It's good to touch the green green grass of home. Yes they've all come to meet me arms reaching smiling sweetly It's so good to touch the green green grass of home. The old house is still standing though the paint is cracked and dry And there's that old oak tree that I used to play on down the lane I'd walk with my sweet Mary her golden lips like cherries It's good to touch the green green grass of home. Yes they've all come ... Then I awake and look around me at the gray walls that surround me And I realized that I was only dreaming For there's a guard and there's a sad old padre arm in arm we'll walk at daybreak again I'll touch the green green grass of home. Yes they'll all come to see me i n the shade of that old oak tree As they lay me neath the green green grass of home. |

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses
You've been out ridin fences for so long now Oh and you're a hard one, but I know that you've got your reasons The things that are pleasin' you, can hurt you somehow. Don't you draw the queen of diamonds boy, she'll beat you if she's able You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet Now it seems to me some fine things have been laid upon your table But you only want the ones you can't get. Desperado, you ain't gettin' no younger Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home And freedom, oh freedom, well that's just some people talkin' Your prison is walking through this world all alone. Don't your feet get cold in the wintertime The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine It's hard to tell the nighttime from the day And you're losin' all your highs and lows Ain't it funny how the feelin' goes away? Desperado, why don't you come to your senses Come down from your fences- open the gates It may be rainin, but there's a rainbow above you You'd better let somebody love you, let somebody love you. You'd better let somebody love you Before it's too late... |

I cried a tear, you wiped it dry
I was confused, you cleared my mind I sold my soul, you bought it back for me And held me up, and gave me dignity Somehow you needed me. You gave me strength to stand alone again To face the world out of my own again You put me high upon a pedestal So high that I could almost see eternity You needed me, you needed me. And I can't believe it's you I can't believe it's true I needed you, you were there I'll never leave, why should I leave? I'd be a fool, 'cause I've finally found someone Who really cares. You held my hand when it was cold When I was lost you took me home You gave me hope when I was at the end And turned my lies back into truth again You even called me friend. You gave me strength to stand alone again To face the world out of my own again You put me high upon a pedestal So high that I could almost see eternity You needed me, you needed me... |

I've spent my life looking for you
Finding my way wasn't easy to do But I knew there was you all the while And it's been worth every mile. Lay down beside me and love me and hide me Kiss all the hurting of this world away Hold me so close that I'll feel your heartbeat And don't ever wander away. Mornings and evenings all were the same And there was no music 'til I heard your name But I knew when I saw you smile Now I can rest for a while. |

I wouldn't listen, and I couldn't see,
And all I have left now, Are words you said to me Sing me a song sweet music man, 'Cause I won't be there to hold your hand Like I used to, I'm through with you You're a helluva singer And a powerful man but you surround yourself With people who demand so little of you You touched my soul with your beautiful song You even had me singing along right with you You said "I need you" Then you changed the words and that harmony And you sang that song you'd written for me To someone new But nobody sings a love song quite like you do, And nobody else can make me sing along, And nobody else can make me feel That things are right when you know they're wrong, Nobody sings a love song quite like you. Sing me a song sweet music man, Your making a living doing one night stands that do for you what you need them to Your still a hell of a singer but a broken man And you surround yourself with people who demand So little of you But nobody sings a love song quite like you do, You travel the world with a six piece band That does for you what you ask 'em to And you try to stay up with the songs you sung To so many people that all begun to come back on you Sing me a song sad music man You're making your living doing one night stands that's do with you they don't need you, you're still a helluva singer but a broken man but you keep on looking for one last band to sing with you But nobody sings a love song quite like you do, And nobody else can make me sing along, And nobody else can make me feel That things are right when you're wrong with a song, Nobody sings a love song quite like you. So sing me a song sweet music man, I believe in you |

Evryone considered him the coward of the county.
Hed never stood one single time to prove the county wrong. His mama named him tommy, the folks just called him yellow, But something always told me they were reading tommy wrong. He was only ten years old when his daddy died in prison. I looked after tommy cause he was my brothers son. I still recall the final words my brother said to tommy: Son, my life is over, but yours is just begun. Promise me, son, not to do the things Ive done. Walk away from trouble if you can. It wont mean youre weak if you turn the other cheek. I hope youre old enough to understand: Son, you dont have to fight to be a man. Theres someone for evryone and tommys love was becky. In her arms he didnt have to prove he was a man. One day while he was workin the gatlin boys came callin. They took turns at becky.... there was three of them! Tommy opened up the door and saw his becky cryin. The torn dress, the shattered look was more than he could stand. He reached above the fireplace and took down his daddys picture. As his tears fell on his daddys face, he heard these words again: Promise me, son, not to do the things Ive done. Walk away from trouble if you can. It wont mean youre weak if you turn the other cheek. I hope youre old enough to understand: Son, you dont have to fight to be a man. The gatlin boys just laughed at him when he walked into the barroom. One of them got up and met him halfway cross the floor. When tommy turned around they said, hey look! ol yellows leavin. But you coulda heard a pin drop when tommy stopped and blocked the door. Twenty years of crawlin was bottled up inside him. He wasnt holdin nothin back; he let em have it all. When tommy left the barroom not a gatlin boy was standin. He said, this ones for becky, as he watched the last one fall. And I heard him say, I promised you, dad, not to do the things you done. I walk away from trouble when I can. Now please dont think Im weak, I didnt turn the other cheek, And papa, I sure hope you understand: Sometimes you gotta fight when youre a man. Evryone considered him the coward of the county. |

Let's go out in a blaze of glory
All good things must end Like two heros in a story Let's go out like we came in In a blaze of glory Here we are broken-hearted We thought our love would never end We fell hard when we got started Fallin' out like we fell in Let's go out in a blaze of glory All good things must end Like two heros in a story Let's go out like we came in In a blaze of glory Let's gonna hurt each other That would be a worse mistake Once again let's act like lovers One more time for old-time's sake Let's go out in a blaze of glory All good things must end Like two heros in a story let's go out like we came in in a blaze of glory let's go out (let's go out) in a blaze of glory (in a blaze of glory) all good things must end like two heros (ah?) in a story (in a story?.) let's go out (let's go out) like we came in (like we came in) in a blaze of glory? |

You lie in gentle sleep beside me
I hear your warm and rhythmic breathing I take your hand and hold it tightly Listen, can you not hear our young hearts beating I kiss the sleep from your eyes Your smile is sweeter than the morning And here it comes. Chorus: Can you feel it baby Can you feel it, here it comes Feel it, Feel it Fire, Fire Something's burning Something's burning Something's burning And I think it's love. And now the sun is burning brightly We lie in love so close together I get the feeling deep inside me My love for you will burn forever. I cup my hands to touch your face And once again I feel your fire And here it comes Chorus: Can you feel it baby Can you feel it, here it comes Feel it, Feel it Fire, Fire Something's burning Something's burning Something's burning And I think it's love. And I think it's love, love And I think it's love. And I think it's love, love And I think it's love. And I think it's love, love And I think it's love... |

On a warm summer's evenin'
On a train bound for nowhere I met up with the gambler We were both too tired to sleep So we took turns a-starin' Out the window at the darkness When boredom overtook us He began to speak He said, "Son, I've made my life Out of readin' people's faces Knowin' what the cards were By the way they held their eyes So if you don't mind my sayin' I can see you're out of aces For a taste of your whiskey I'll give you some advice" So I handed him my bottle And he drank down my last swallow Then he bummed a cigarette And asked me for a light And the night got deathly quiet And his face lost all expression He said, "If You're gonna play the game, boy You gotta learn to play it right" You've got to know When to hold 'em Know when to fold 'em Know when to walk away Know when to run You never count your money When you're sittin' at the table There'll be time enough for countin' When the dealin's done Now every gambler knows The secret to survivin' Is knowin' what to throw away And knowin' what to keep 'Cause every hand's a winner And every hand's a loser And the best you can hope for Is to die in your sleep" And when he finished speakin' He turned back toward the window Crushed out his cigarette And faded off to sleep And somewhere in the darkness The gambler - he broke even And in his final words I found An ace that I could keep You've got to know When to hold 'em Know when to fold 'em Know when to walk away Know when to run You never count your money When you're sittin' at the table There'll be time enough for countin' When the dealin's done You've got to know When to hold 'em Know when to fold 'em Know when to walk away Know when to run You never count your money When you're sittin' at the table There'll be time enough for countin' When the dealin's done |

Baby, I'm a need you You're the only one I care enough to hurt about. Maybe I'm crazy But I just can't live without Your loving and affection Givin' me direction Like a guidin' light To help me through my darkest hour. Lately I'm a prayin' That you'll always be a stayin' Beside me. Used to be that life was Just emotions passing by Feeling all the while and Never really knowing why. Lately I'm a prayin' That you'll always be a stayin' Beside me. Then you came along And made me laugh And made me cry You taught me why. Baby, I'm a want you Baby, I need you Oh, it's so long for me to find you, girl I'm so glad that you find me No, no body else but you. Oh I want you Know that I can never find Nobody near you Baby I want you I need you... |

Each time we meet love I find complete love Without your sweet love What would life be? So never leave me lonely Tell me you'll love me only And that you'll always Let it be me... |

You never close your eyes anymore
When I kiss your lips And there's no tenderness like before In your finger tips You're tryin' hard not to show it, baby But baby, baby I know it. You've lost that lovin' feeling Oh, oh that lovin' feeling You've lost that lovin' feeling Now it's gone, gone, gone, oh, oh, oh. Now there's no welcome look In your eyes when I reach for you And now you're startin' to criticize Little things I do It makes me just feel like cryin', baby 'Cause baby, something beautiful's dyin'. You've lost that lovin' feeling Oh, oh that lovin' feeling You've lost that lovin' feeling Now it's gone, gone, gone, oh, oh, oh. And I can't go on, oh, oh, oh. Baby, baby I'd get down on my knees for you If you would only love me like you used to do We had a love, a love A love you don't find everyday So don't, don't, don't let it slip away. Bring back that lovin' feeling Oh, that lovin' feeling Bring back that lovin' feeling 'Cause it's gone and I can't go on... |
