Oh mama I'm excited I'm almost out of breath
What I saw the light that made me run myself to death I was on the mountain side when I looked down below And glory be I thought I'd better come and let you know We got company comin' company comin' we got company comin' up the road They're down the road about a mile they'll be here in a little while There's company comin' up the road Well Granny change your apron and Willie shine your shoes Sally put your new dress on we got no time to lose I'll go find a welcome mat and spread it out with cheer I don't know yet just who they are can't pick 'em out from here But we got company comin' company comin' we got company comin' up the road They're comin' up the mountain side Susie don't you run and hide There's company comin' up the road We'll run out to the henhouse and wring a neck or two We'll have chicken and dumplings and some yellow gravy too Grandpa get your fiddle down they might want a tune Everybody hurry cause them folks will be here soon We got company comin' company comin' we got company comin' up the road Let them all shout out aloud they'll be here in a minute now There's company comin' down the road Oh we got company comin' company comin' we got company comin' up the road Let them all shout out aloud they'll be here in a minute now There's company comin' down the road |

How many times have you heard someone say
If I had his money I could do things my way But little they know that is so hard to find one rich man in ten with a satisfied mind Once I was waiting in fortune and fame Everything that I dreamed for to get a start in life's game But suddenly it's happened I lost every dime But I'm richer by far with a satisfied mind Money can't buy back your youth when you're old Or a friend when you're lonely or a love that's grown cold The wealthiest person is a proper at times compared to the man with a satisfied mind When life has ended my time has run out My friends and my loved ones I'll leave there's no doubt But there's one thing for certain when it comes my time I'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind ------------- Lyrics Powered by LyricFind Written By JACK RHODES, RED HAYES Lyrics © CARLIN AMERICA INC, WINDSWEPT HOLDINGS LLC |

Midnight I've spent another lonely day thinkin' of you
Midnight tomorrow is on its way empty and blue I'm so lonely so lonely at midnight for you Midnight oh what a lonely time to weep I ought to know Midnight I should have been fast asleep hours ago Still I'm crying I'm crying I'm crying cause I miss you so [ guitar ] Midnight I lie in the bed and stare at nothing at all Wondering wondering why you don't care wishing you'd call Tears keep flowing like drops from the waterfall Midnight I've spent another... |

So break out the bottle bring on the crowd
Just gather round me cause misery loves a company I've just left my home friends where I couldn't sleep For missin' a woman that I couldn't keep She just walked out and left me for somebody else Now her memory keeps hauntin' me when I'm by myself So break out the bottle bring on the crowd Tell funny stories turn the jukebox up loud Come on sit at my table where the drinks are on me Just gather round me cause misery loves company Now I'm not the first one who's lost everything To a false hearted woman with a false hearted dream But this is the first time I've suffered myself Help me get over this love I'll get over next love all by myself So break out the bottle... |

In tomorrow's newspaper you'll read about me but they won't tell the story I know
For they'll only say he plunged yesterday to the cold dark waters below I guess it all started the day we first met you promised that you'd love me so And I never thought it would end in regret in the cold dark waters below ( piano ) In a moment I'll ride on the drift of the tide and I hope your conscience hurts so All the tears that I've cried will be easy to hide in the cold dark waters below Now I hear them running to try and stop me they're shouting oh don't let him go But it's far too late and I'll soon meet my fate in the cold dark waters below In the cold dark waters below |

There's a legend about a church in our town the steeple so high seen for miles around
Look on the hill and you'll realize the steeple's too big for the churches size It seemes it was a long time ago when this church had no steeple Just four walls and the roof overhead sheltered the humble people But the money was short cause the times were bad They had to get along on what they had Just good simple people praying for a steeple About this time when spring was near a man of weath and his sweetheart dear Made their plans for the bells to ring they would wed on the first of spring So this man of wealth and his true love dear named the wedding hours They would wed in the little church the one that had no towers But he was the kind and generous man he told his true love of his plan How to build a steeple for these good people Yes they'll have their steeple the bells there will ring They'll ring for our wedding on the first day of spring But they say death comes like a thief and soon his heart was filled with grief One week before the wedding day he learned his love has passed away Inspite of his grief and broken heart he kept the promise given I'll build the steeple so my love can hear the bells in heaven And then he built the steeple there the tallest one in all the land That's how the people got their steeple Well that is the reason the steeple lives so high And how the bells ring louder when springtime is nigh |

The old hometown looks the same
As I step down from the train There to meet me is my Mama and Papa And down the road I look, and there runs Mary Hair of gold and lips like cherry It's good to touch the green green grass of home Yes they've all come to meet me Arms a-reaching, smiling sweetly It's good to touch the green green grass of home The old house is still standing Though the paint is cracked and dry There's that old oak tree that I used to play on And down the lane I walk with my sweet Mary Hair of gold and lips like cherry It's good to touch the green green grass of home Then I awake and look around me At these four grey walls that surround me And I realize that I was only dreaming For there's a guard and a sad old heartbreak Arm in arm we'll walk at daybreak When again I'll touch the green green grass of home They'll all come to see me In the shade of that old oak tree As they lay me 'neath the green green grass of home |

My baby left me this morning wore her brand new walking shoes
I don't know where she is going everything she touches is the blues Wonder what she'll name our baby someone else is helping her to choose I only know my heart is broken everything she touches is the blues [ guitar ] Yes my baby left me... Everything she touches is the blues |

The one I love don't want me hanging round
All she does is put me on and put me down Tonight she's with a stranger at a party in her home And I'm here at a tavern gettin' stoned Cause if I gotta go I'll go down swinging Where there's lights and laughter booze and blonds and a lot of sad sad singing I'll sober up tomorrow and cry all day I know At least I'll go down swinging what a swinging way to go [ el.banjo ] I dance with all the girls and buy the wine Play the jukebox till I'm down to my last dime She thinks she made a fool of me by loving someone else She should see me make a fool out of myself Cause if I gotta go... |

I'm just askin' you to listen not to understand these confessions of a broken man
I don't know where my story starts or I'd go back to them All I know it's a sad sad tale so for it has no end I know I drank too much though I didn't take thirst Oh I'd have a beer or two and it just seemed to go from bad to worse Then one day I noticed my money was goin' out faster than it was comin' in And I got scared and I started gamblin' and I'm the kind that just never seems to win I had a woman guess every man does and every man thinks his is the best mine was Stuck by me through thick and thin till it just got too thin I guess She walked in one day and said she had believed me I could've sworn I saw big tear in her eye I heard the other day that she got married again I hope he treats her better than I Well if you get me idea that I'm some son of a bum you're catchin' on pretty fast And if you wonder if I've turned into a wino For these are all my fingerprints on this glass I've been sittin' in this bar since they opened up this mornin' And it's almost time to close tonight I guess it's about time to go find me a gutter tuck myself in tonight Where does a man go when he's already on the bottom It's really not much choise he's got Either picks hisself up and tries again or just lays back down to rot No life starts out to be like mine pain is never planned And yet here I sit with nothing in the world but these confessions of a broken man I'm just askin' you to listen not to understand these confessions of a broken man |

In a buildin' tall with a stone wall around there's a rubber room
When a man sees things and hears sounds that's not there He's headed for the rubber room Illusions in a twisted mind to save from self-destruction hmm it's the rubber room Where a man can run into the wall till his strenght makes him fall and lie still And wait for help in the rubber room From his blurry vision of doom a psycho in the rubber room The man in the room right next to mine screams a woman's name hits the wall in vain He's in the rubber room I hear footsteps poundin' on the floor God I hope they don't stop at my door Hmm I'm in the rubber room Now they've come to get me but they find I'm a screamin' pretty words tryin' to make 'em rhyme I'm n the rubber room hmm a psycho I'm in the rubber room hmm |
