Well, I was born a coal miner's daughter, In a cabin, on a hill in butcher holler, We were poor, but we had love, That's the one thing daddy made sure of, He shoveled coal to make a poor man's dollar. My daddy worked all night in the Van Lear Cole Mines, All day long in a field a-hoein' corn, Mommy rocked the babies at night, and read The Bible by the coal-oil light, And everything would start all over come break of mornin'. Daddy loved and raised 8 kids on a miner' pay, Mommy scrubbed our clothes on a wash board every day, Why, I seen her fingers bleed, to complain, there was no need, She'd smile in mommy's understanding way. In the summertime we didn't have shoes to wear, But in the winter time, we'd all get a brand new pair, From a mail-order catalog, money mad from selling a hog, Daddy all ways managed to get the money somewhere. Yeah, I'm proud to be a coal miner's daughter, I remember well, the well where I drew water, The work we done was hard, at night we'd sleep 'cause we were tired, I never thought of leavin' Butcher Holler. Well, a lot of things have changed since way back then, And it's so good to be back home again, Not much left but the floor, nothin' lives here anymore, 'Cept the memories of a coal miner's daughter. |

You left me for the bright lights of the town. A country boy set out to see the world. Remember when those city lights shine down. That big old moon shines on your Kentucky girl. I swear I love you, by the moon above you. How bright is it shining in your world? Some morning when you wake up all alone. Just come on home to your blue Kentucky girl. Don't wait to bring great riches home to me. I need no diamond rings or fancy pearls. Just bring yourself, you're all I'll ever need. That's good enough for this blue Kentucky girl. I swear I love you by the moon above you. How bright is it shinin in your world? Some morning when you wake up all alone. Just come on home to your blue Kentucky girl. |

I've seen him as he awakens in the morning
He reaches out his hand and without a word As his fingers softly fall upon my face He lights the flame of desire and makes me want him And love is the foundation we lean on All you need is love to ease your mind And does it have to be right to be called love When he gives me more loving Then a lifetime of looking could ever find And love is the foundation we lean on All you need is love to ease your mind And does it have to be right to be called love When he gives me more loving Then a lifetime of looking could ever find |

You wined me and dined me
When I was your girl Promised if I'd be your wife You'd show me the world But all I've seen of this old world Is a bed and a doctor bill I'm tearin' down your brooder house 'Cause now I've got the pill. All these years I've stayed at home While you had all your fun And every year thats gone by Another babys come. There's a gonna be some changes made Right here on nursery hill You've set this chicken your last time 'Cause now I've got the pill. This old maternity dress I've got Is goin' in the garbage The clothes I'm wearin' from now on Won't take up so much yardage. Miniskirts, hot pants And a few little fancy frills Yeah, I'm makin' up for all those years Since I've got the pill. I'm tired of all your crowin' How you and your hens play While holdin' a couple in my arms Another's on the way. This chicken's done tore up her nest And I'm ready to make a deal And ya can't afford to turn it down 'Cause you know I've got the pill. This incubator is overused Because you've kept it filled The feelin' good comes easy now Since I've got the pill. It's gettin' dark it's roostin' time Tonight's too good to be real Oh, but daddy don't you worry none 'Cause mama's got the pill. Oh, daddy don't you worry none 'Cause mama's got the pill... |

You've come to tell me something you say I ought to know
That he don't love me anymore and I'll have to let him go You say you're gonna take him oh but I don't think you can Cause you ain't woman enough to take my man. Women like you they're a dime a dozen you can buy 'em anywhere For you to get to him I'd have to move over and I'm gonna stand right here It'll be over my death body so get out while you can 'Cause you ain't woman enough to take my man. Sometimes a man start lookin' at things that he don't need He took a second look at you but he's in love with me Well I don't know where they leave you oh but I know where I'll stand And you ain't woman enough to take my man. Women like you they're a dime a dozen you can buy 'em anywhere For you to get to him I'd have to move over and I'm gonna stand right here It'll be over my dead body so get out while you can 'Cause you ain't woman enough to take my man. No, you ain't woman enough to take my man... |

There's trouble in paradise
I can see it and I know the signs so well I know he's out there and around it every day There's trouble but there won't be long 'Cause in the morning it'll all be gone Long gone, 'cause Lord I'm gonna love him Till the devil goes away Now I know about those devil women They'll set your lovers head to spinning And she's a demon she wants control But she ain't taken my mans soul She ain't taken my mans soul There's trouble in paradise I can see it and I know the signs so well I know he's out there and around it every day There's trouble but there won't be long 'Cause in the morning it'll all be gone Long gone, 'cause Lord I'm gonna love him Till the devil goes away There's trouble in paradise Lord I'm gonna love him Till the devil goes away |

You came from the city streets to my little country town
Your spell is on my baby and you've got me sorrow bound You don't really love him you're playin' around for fun Woman of the world leave my world alone You're the devil's woman that's what my man don't know Why I wear more in swimmin' than you wear to parties where you go There's a place I know where you should go for that's where you belong Woman of the world leave my world alone I don't know about the things the bright lights taught to you My country boy don't know them any better than I do I'll have to watch him hurtin' after you are gone Woman of the world leave my world alone You're the devil's woman... |

Well, goodbye tubs and clothes lines, goodbye pots and pans
I'm a gonna take a greyhound bus, as further as I can I ain't a gonna wash no windows and I ain't a gonna scrub no floors And when you realize I'm gone, I'm a gonna hear you roar. And you'll say hey Loretta, I love you more than my Irish Setter Hey Loretta, don't leave me alone Hey Loretta, I swear I'm a gonna treat you better Buy you brand new overalls if you'll only come back home. I work my fingers to the bone and we don't hardly speak And all I ever get is just a little kiss about once a week So you can feed the chickens and you can milk the cow This a woman's liberation, honey is a gonna start right now. And you'll say hey Loretta, I love you more than my Irish Setter Hey Loretta, don't leave me alone Hey Loretta, I swear I'm a gonna treat you better Buy you brand new overalls if you'll only come back home. I'll dress up like a movie star and pretty up my hair And no one here is a gonna know what I'll be doing there I'll be swinging from a chandelier and bouncin' off the walls Instead of lovin' just one man I'm a gonna love 'em all. And you'll say hey Loretta, I love you more than my Irish Setter Hey Loretta, don't leave me alone Hey Loretta, I swear I'm a gonna treat you better Buy you brand new overalls if you'll only come back home... |

Lyin' alone in this big old bed
I got you on my mind I said when you left I could make it by myself But it gets harder all the time And I can't take it no more I see your face Every time I close my eyes So I'm goin' out now And I'm lookin' for you Some winter night I want you out of my head And back in my bed Before the mornin' sun comes up I can't stand another night Without holdin' me tight How I miss your lovin' touch I'm goin' searchin' Everywhere that a you might be When I find you I'm a bringin' you home with me I want you out of my head And back in my bed Before the mornin' comes Well I might find somebody new To share my misery But no other man Can do what you can When it comes to lovin' me I don't want nobody to say that I was a fool For bein' cool I won't be satisfied till you're back in my arms And I'm lovin' you I want you out of my head And back in my bed Before the mornin' sun comes up I can't stand another night Without you holdin' me tight How I miss your lovin' touch I'm goin' searchin' Everywhere that a you might be And when I find you I'm a bringin' you home with me I want you out of my head And back in my bed Before the mornin' comes I want you out of my head And back in my bed Before the mornin' sun comes up I can't stand another night Without you holdin me tight How I miss your lovin' touch I'm goin' searchin' Everywhere that a you might be FADES- A when I find you I'm a bringin' you home with me I want you out of my head And back in my bed Before the mornin' comes |
