Now that I have known love as sweet as yours
Love so very deep and complete as yours Hunger for your lips, pains of jealousy After loving you, what is left for me Head and heart and soul, overpowered by love I forget that there was a God above Tortured by the things that I couldn't see After loving you, what is left for me Leave me and my voice would become so still And my touch would be winter's icy chill Leave me and my eyes would be full of rain And the need of you surging through and through Would drive me insane Loving you so much that it tears my heart That would hurt me less than to be apart So it will remain till eternity There's no other world that is worth passing through After holding you After kissing you After loving you |

I've been ready for hours and I'm wearing my best
Ordered champagne and flowers and you're not even dressed Tonight's a special night to remember with pride These twenty happy years since you became my bride It is all too absurd, you're so cross and abrupt But I don't say a word or you're bound to erupt Your peculiar moods I've experienced before So I'll pour another drink and quietly pace the floor It's a quarter to eight as we fretfully wait For your little black dress, that was promised by six Is it just rotten luck, when we're doing the town That the fates should conspire, to let us mortals down I have seats for a show and it's opening night My shoes do not fit me and my suit is too tight And you sit there and curse, an occasional curse And I've got a headache that's quickly getting worse Happy anniversary, happy anniversary They deliver your frock, but you're still in distress It was past nine o clock, when I helped you to dress I tried to do you up, but, it wasn't my day For then to fill my cup, your zipper stuck half way I got all in a sweat, over anxious and vexed Will I ever forget, the thing that happened next Your dress just came apart, with one terrible tear Your disappointed cries, were more than I could bear At eleven at last, when we got into town We arrived at the show, but the curtain was down I suggested a bite. No, no you wanted to walk You had no appetite and no desire to talk So we strolled for an hour, and the evening was sweet And I bought you a flower, from a man in the street And we kissed on the sidewalk, without reason or rhyme And we knew that our love is must stronger than time Happy anniversary, happy anniversary, happy anniversary. |

She may be the face I can't forget,
A trace of pleasure or regret, May be my treasure or The price I have to pay. She may be the song that summer sings, May be the chill that autumn brings, May be a hundred different things Within the measure of a day. She may be the beauty or the beast, May be the famine or the feast, May turn each day into a Heaven or a hell. She may be the mirror of my dream, A smile reflected in a stream, She may not be what she may seem Inside her shell. She who always seems so happy in a crowd, Whose eyes can be so private and so proud, No one's allowed to see them When they cry. She may be the love that cannot hope to last, May come to me from shadows of the past, That I remember till the day I die. She may be the reason I survive, The why and wherefore I'm alive, The one I'll care for through the Rough and rainy years. Me, I'll take her laughter and her tears And make them all my souvenirs For where she goes I've got to be. The meaning of my life is she, she, she--. |

Dance in the old fashioned way
Won't you stay in my arms Just melt against my skin And let me feel your heart, Don't let the music win By dancing far apart Come close where you belong Let's hear our secret song Dance in the old fashioned way Won't you stay in my arms And we'll discover heights We never knew before, If we just close our eyes And dance around the floor That gay old fashioned way That makes me love you more Come closer forget about the others It's nice to be like this Cheek to cheek in the old fashioned way It's funny but I have the feeling that We're dancing as our parents used to do Well, maybe they weren't wrong The world changes, love stays Dance in the old fashioned way Won't you stay in my arms And we'll discover heights We never knew before If we just close our eyes And dance around the floor That gay old fashioned way That makes me love you more |

My mum and I we live alone
A great apartment is our home In Fairhome Towers I have to keep me company Two dogs, a cat, a parakeet Some plants and flowers I help my mother with the chores I wash, she dries, I do the floors We work together I shop and cook and sow a bit Though mum does too I must admit I do it better At night I work in a strange bar Impersonating every star I'm quite deceiving The customers come in with doubt And wonder what I'm all about But leave believing I do a very special show Where I am nude from head to toe After stripteasing Each night the men look so surprised I change my sex before their eyes Tell me if you can What makes a man a man At three o'clock or so I meet With friends to have a bite to eat And conversation We love to empty out our hearts With every subject from the arts To liberation We love to pull apart someone And spread some gossip just for fun Or start a rumor We let our hair down, so to speak And mock ourselves with tongue-in-cheek And inside humor So many times we have to pay For having fun and being gay It's not amusing There's always those that spoil our games By finding fault and calling names Always accusing They draw attention to themselves At the expense of someone else It's so confusing Yet they make fun of how I talk And imitate the way I walk Tell me if you can What makes a man a man My masquerade comes to an end And I go home to bed again Alone and friendless I close my eyes, I think of him I fantasize what might have been My dreams are endless We love each other but it seems The love is only in my dreams It's so one sided But in this life I must confess The search for love and happiness Is unrequited I ask myself what I have got Of what I am and what I'm not What have I given The answers come from those who make The rules that some of us must break Just to keep living I know my life is not a crime I'm just a victim of my time I stand defenseless Nobody has the right to be The judge of what is right for me Tell me if you can What make a man a man Tell me if you can Tell me if you can Tell me if you can What makes a man a man |

Yesterday when I was young
the taste of life was sweet like rain upon my tongue, I teased at life as if it were a foolish game the way an evening breeze would tease a candle flame, The thousand dreams I dreamed, the splendid things I planned I always built to last on weak and shifting sand, I lived by night and shunned the naked light of day and only now I see how the years have run away Yesterday when I was young there were so many songs that waited to be sung, So many wild pleasures that lay in store for me and so much pain my dazzled eyes refused to see, I ran so fast that time and youth at last ran out and I never stopped to think what life was all about, and every conversation that I can recall concerned itself with me, and nothing else at all. Yesterday the moon was blue and every crazy day brought something new to do, and I used my magic age as if it were a wand and never saw the waste and emptiness beyond, The game of love I played with arrogance and pride and every flame I lit so quickly, quickly died the friends I made all seemed, somehow, to drift away and only I am left on stage to end the play. Yesterday when I was young there were so many songs that waited to be sung, So many wild pleasures lay in store for me and so much pain my dazzled eyes refused to see, There are so many songs in me that won't be sung cause I feel the bitter taste of tears upon my tongue And the time has come for me to pay for yesterday When I was young. |

You've got to learn to show a happy face
Although you're full of misery You mustn't show a trace of sadness Never look for sympathy You've got to learn although it's very hard The way of pocketing your pride Sometimes face humiliation While you were burning up inside Facing reality is often hard to do When it seems happiness is gone You've got to learn to hide your tears And tell your heart life must go on You've got to learn to leave the table When love's no longer being served To show everybody that you're able To leave without saying a word You've got to learn to hide your sorrow And go on living as before What good is thinking of tomorrow Who knows what it may have in store You've got to learn to be much stronger At times your head should rule your heart You've got to learn from hard experience And listen to advice And sometimes pay the price And learn to live with a broken heart |

How sad Venice can be
When you return alone And find a memory In a repaving stone I woke among the bird That fills in Marble Square With a quote of her words Around me in the air How sad Venice can be When the melodies play A song she sung for me One unforgotten day Like a magic sea The gondoliers go by But when I try to weep I find my tears are dry How sad Venice can be When mist is in your eyes And you can hardly see As visions fill the skies I find the little street And then the old cafe Where we would always meet To dream away the day How sad Venice can be Beneath the sun's moon That rises from the sea And singles the moon I hear the vespers chime And cross the bridge of sun I know that it is time To bid my last goodbye There's nothing more to say I pass beneath the light And then I turn away From Venice in the night How sad Venice can be It's too lonely to bare When you have lost the love That you discovered there |

Now as the wheel of life turns faster
Now as the seasons seem to fly I see so many things at last, but didn't see the time go by I've known delight, I've known disaster The caviar, the humble pie From the absurd to the sublime I didn't see the time go by I didn't see the years roll on I didn't know the road would bend Refused to see when youth was gone Pretending it might never end Now, there is price to pay for every day I threw away It seems I've wasted half a lifetime within the blinking of an eye I didn't hear the midnight chime I didn't see the time go by In still of nights and brief romances I kissed the girls and made them cry While there were balconies to climb I didn't see the time go by I was the guy with all the answers, the halfway-truths, the little lies So sure, so certain in my prime I didn't see the time go by I hit the heights, I bit the dirt I left some wreckage in my way I didn't see that lies can hurt I didn't know how hearts can break And now, they come to haunt my mind, the lives I touched and left behind I've sung a hundred songs of longing, of sweet regret and hope run dry I've searched for melody and rhyme, but never saw how time can fly, newer saw the darkening sky I was a minstrel of my time Who did not see the time go by |

You and I must make a pact
We must bring salvation back, Where there is love, I'll be there. (I'll be there) I'll reach out my hand to you I'll have faith in all you do. Just call my name and I'll be there. (I'll be there) I'll be there to comfort you, Build my world of dreams around you, I'm so glad that I found you. I'll be there with a love that's strong, I'll be your strength, I'll keep holdin' on. (holdin' on) Yes I will Let me fill your heart with joy and laughter, Togetherness, girl, is all I'm after, Whenever you need me, I'll be there. (I'll be there) I'll be there to protect you, (yeah baby) With unselfish love that respects you. Just call my name, I'll be there. (I'll be there) I'll be there to comfort you, Build my world of dreams around you, I'm so glad that I found you. I'll be there with a love that's strong, I'll be your strength, I'll keep holdin' on. Oh oh oh Yes I will (holdin' on, holdin' on) Yes I will If you should ever find someone new I know he better be good to you Cause if he doesn't Ill be there (ill be there) Don't you know baby I'll be there I'll be there I'll be there Just call my name, I'll be there (I'll be there) Just look over your shoulders honey! Oh! I'll be there, I'll be there, Whenever you need me, I'll be there (I'll be there) Don't you know baby, I'll be there, I'll be there Just call my name, I'll be there (I'll be there) Oh oh oh oh I'll be there, I'll be there |

The times we've known are slipping by
Iike vapour trails across the sky The best of times, the worst of times Have come and gone The years of debt, the years of doubt the years of 'what's it all about?' Of holding fast, and holding out And holding on When life was hard and chances few Still I was rich in having you Though people said we wouldn't go far We went ahead and here we are Together still remember me Together still through everything The times we've known Sometimes the years were lush and green Sometimes we lived on hope alone A little bit of both have been The times we've known Some lucky flings, some rotten breaks Some funny things, a few mistakes The dreams that every dreamer takes And makes his own The time to laugh, a time to cry A time to let the world go by And if there were some tears to pay No one can take those years away On fragile wings our days have flown Still we have things to call our own The times we've known The times we've known |

I guess just about the hardest thing to do
When you're doing something like this Is to find a new love song to sing Because they're almost always about one of three things Right, they're either the, ah, the guy meets the girl Or the guy loses the girl or the guy gets the girl Well I found this song and it isn't about any of those three things This song is about two people Who have already known each other for quite a while So we're alone again tonight I read a book, you watch the fight A stifled yawn, a can of beer What an enthralling atmosphere And yet the sight of us this way Helps me to say what I must say It helps me to think a thought or two To pass it right along to you And just for starters you should know I think You've let yourself go Down through the years, each sage repeats Grass never grows on busy streets Which might explain that balding spot Were you a thinker, which you're not And where's that slender youth I knew I fear he's grown an inch or two Not up and down my joy and pride But more precisely side to side When at a party, now and then You tell the same old jokes again Or wear a lampshade for a hat Who could be wittier than that? With one too many you just might Pick some unnecessary fight Though in the morning with the sun You can't remember what you've done If there's regret, it doesn't show You know, you've let yourself go You never care the way you dress You stay unshaven, you look a mess The smallest thing is too much to do I even hold the door for you And every rose upon the shelf Is one that I've supplied myself It's not the same, I'm well aware Yet I need to see them there I don't know why I say it now, why I don't? ⓒFRANCE MUSIC CORP ⓒON BACKSTREET MUSIC |
