See the funny little clown
See him laughing as you walk by Everybody thinks he's happy 'Cause you never see a tear in his eye No one knows he's crying No one knows he's dying on the inside 'Cause he's laughing on the outside, mm No one knows, no one knows See the funny little clown He's hiding behind a smile They all think he's laughing But I know he's really crying all the while How his heart is aching How his heart is breaking on the inside But he keeps laughing on the outside, mm No one knows, no one knows This funny little clown You never used to see him around Without his girl beside him To love and guide him Until one day his girl just walked away And to this very day he says "He never loved her anyway" Mm, and no one knows except for me Because you see I'm that funny little clown |

Little things that you do make me glad I'm in love with you
Little things that you say make me glad that I feel this way The way you smile, the way you hold my hand And when I'm down you always understand You know I love those Little things in my ear that you say when there's no one near Little things that you do let me know that your love is true When we walk, you like to hold my hand And when we talk you tell me I'm your man You know I love those Little things that I hear, the little things you whisper in my ear I know there ain't nobody else like you No one could do the little things you do-oo Little things that you do make me glad I'm in love with you Little things that you say make me glad that I feel this way When we walk, you like to hold my hand And when we talk you tell me I'm your man You know I love those Little things that I hear, the little things you whisper in my ear I know there ain't nobody else like you No one could do the little things you do-oo |

I remember when I told you
That I tried in every way To hold you and kiss you and love you and keep you till my dying day You just laughed And said you found somebody new And you didn't need all the things I could do. Now you found out that your new love Isn't true like he should be You say that you're gonna forget him and you're gonna come back to me Well things have changed And I've found me somebody new Someone to make me forget about you And I'm telling you That it's too late to say you're sorry It's too late to say you're mine I have found myself a new love And I'm going to make her mine It's too late It's too late Many days I tried to call you Many nights I spent alone Everyone knew that I loved you but you had a love of your own. But now that it's gone You think you can come back to me But I'm not the same fool that I used to be And you're gonna see That it's too late to say you're sorry It's too late to say you're mine I have found myself a new love And I'm going to make her mine It's too late It's too late To say you're mine |

Blue Autumn, falling leaves with red and gold.
Pretty colors, I am told. But I only see only shades of blue, because I'm loosing you. Blue Autumn, there's a rainbow in the sky. But no matter how I try, I still see only shades of blue, because I'm loosing you. Such pretty colors I am told, they're for all to see. But falling leaves of red and gold, have all turned blue to me. Blue Autumn, a love like yours I'll never know. Other girls may come and go. But I only see shades of you and all my autumns will be blue. Blue Autumn, a love like yours I'll never know. Other girls may come and go. But I only see shades of you and all my autumns will be blue. |

See the tree, how big it's grown,
But friend, it hasn't been too long it wasn't big I laughed at her, and she got mad The first day that she planted it, was just a twig Then the first snow came and she ran out To brush the snow away so it wouldn't die... Came runnin' in all excited slipped and almost hurt herself And I laughed 'til I cried She was always young at heart Kinda dumb and kinda smart and I loved her so And I surprised her with a puppy Kept me up all Christmas Eve 2 years ago And it would sure embarrass her When I came in from workin' late cause I would know That she'd been sittin there an' cryin' Over some sad and silly late, late show And Honey, I miss you And I'm bein' good And I'd love to be with you If only I could She wrecked the car, and she was sad And so afraid that I'd be mad But, what the heck though I pretended hard to be Guess you could say she saw through me and hugged my neck... I came home unexpectedly And caught her cryin' needlessly, in the middle of the day And it was in the early spring When flowers bloom, and robins sing, she went away... And Honey, I miss you And I'm bein' good And I'd love to be with you If only I could One day while I was not at home, While she was there and all alone the angels came Now all I have is memories of Honey And I wake up nights and call her name Now my life's an empty stage Where Honey lived, and Honey played and love grew up and a small cloud passes over head And cries down on the flower bed that Honey loved And see the tree how big it's grown But, friend it hasn't been too long, it wasn't big And I laughed at her, she got mad The first day that she planted it, was just a twig... |

In the Spring of my life, she came to me.
She brought sunshine where winter winds had blown. Then I took her for my wife, in the spring of my life and she brought me a joy I never known. And the years, they went by in the spring of my life. And in summer, she blessed me with a child. Love continued to grow, in the summer of my life and in every morning sun I saw her smile. But in the autumn of my years, I noticed the tears and I knew our life was in the past. Though I tried to pretend, I knew it was the end. For the autumn of my life had come at last. Now what, what do you say to a child of ten? How do you tell him his daddy's going away? Do I tell him that I reached the autumn of my life and that he'll understand some winter's day? Now the rose can't be found on a snow covered ground. and the Sun can not shine through cloudy skys. But I'm richer you see for the years she gave to me and I'm content in the autumn of my life. |

You knew I could not stay for long when you asked me
to come over in the wee hours of the mornin. I said I could not let the sunrise catch me sleepin and that is why I've givin you fair warnin. And though you might have loved me like I never ever have been loved before your front door is open and I've got to keep on movin. So I will stay with you a while and then I'll let my hitch hike thumb take me to where I wanna. Because I've got to keep on searchin for the dream that I've been seekin since I left my home in Oklahoma And who's to say but that I might not be back tomorrow if I find there's only sorrow you may see me from your windowsill next mornin I'm a drifter and I've seen the rain. I'm a drifter and I've felt the pain, the pain that comes with loneliness. So I drift from town to town searchin all around. Lookin for the answer to my sorrow. And if the answer is you then I'll be back tomorrow. Lets make the most of time before the break of day but don't try to make me stay if I don't want to. Because I've got to keep on searchin for that dream and you can't bind me with the simple words I love you. But if I realize the dream that I've been searchin for is waitin here behind your door then I'll come back to stay if you still want me to. I'm a drifter and I've seen the rain I'm a drifter and I've felt the pain the pain that comes with loneliness. So I drift from town to town searchin all around Lookin for the answer to my sorrow And if the answer is you then I'll be back tomorrow. I'm a drifter and I've seen the rain I'm a drifter and I've felt the pain the pain that comes with loneliness. So I drift from town to town searchin all around Lookin for the answer to my sorrow And if the answer is you then I'll be back tomorrow. I'm a drifter 'fade |

It was a hot afternoon
Last day of June And the sun was a demon The clouds were afraid One-ten in the shade And the pavement was steaming I told Billy-Ray In his red Chevrolet I needed time for some thinking I was just walking by When I looked in her eye And I swore it was winking She was 31 and I was 17 I knew nothing about love She knew everything And I sat down beside her on the front porch swing And wondered what the coming night would bring The sun closed her eyes As it climbed in the sky And it started to swelter The sweat trickled down the front of her gown And I thought it would melt her She threw back her hair Like I wasn't there And she sipped on a julep Her shoulders were bare And I tried not to stare When I looked at her two lips. And when she looked at me I heard her softly say I know you're young You don't know what to do or say But stay with me until the sun has gone away And I will chase the boy in you away And then she smiled and we talked for a while And we walked for a mile to the sea We sat on the sand, and a boy took her hand But I saw the sun rise as a man Ten years have gone by Since I looked in her eye But the memory lingers I go back in my mind To the very first time And feel the touch of her fingers It was a hot afternoon Last day of June And the sun was a demon The clouds were afraid One-ten in the shade And the pavement was steaming... |
