If I knew where the wild dove flew
I would not tell the hunter, but I would tell you Though they say you're not a brave man, hardly a man at all You would not shoot the wild things, like brave men in the fall Mmmm mm If I knew where calypso bloomed, I would not tell the ladies, but I would tell you For you would not take the flower, for money or for love Or harm a single petal, 'cause you would not shoot the dove Mmmm mm If I knew where our green love grew I would not tell the others, but I would tell you For 'though the world may call you craven, I know it is not true And 'though a sword may hang between us, my songs are all for you Mmmm mm |

On the banks of the river, where the willows hang down,
Where the wild birds all warble with a low moaning sound, Down in the hollow where the water runs cold, It's there I *have listened to the lies that you told. (*first) Now I lie on my bed and I see your sweet face. The past I remember, time cannot erase. (The) letters you wrote me were written in shame, And I know that your conscience still echos my *pain. (*name) Now the nights are so long, my sorrow runs deep. Nothing is worse than a night without sleep. I walk out alone, I look at the sky, Too *empty to sing, too **lonesome to cry. (*lonesome) (**empty) (Now) if the ladies were blackbirds and the ladies were thrushes, I'd lie there for hours in the chilly cold marshes. If the ladies were squirrels with (them) high bushy tails, I'd fill up my shotgun with rock salt and nails. |

The old home town looks the same as I step down from the train,
And there meet me is my Mama and my Papa. Down the road I look and there runs Mary hair of gold and lips like cherries. It's good to touch the green, green grass of home. The old house is still standing tho' the paint is cracked and dry, And there's that old oak tree that I used to play on. Down the lane I walk with my sweet Mary, hair of gold and lips like cherries. It's good to touch the green, green grass of home. Yes, they'll all come to meet me, arms reaching, smiling sweetly. It's good to touch the green, green grass of home. Then I awake and look around me, to the four grey wall that surround me And then I realize that I was only dreaming. There's a guard and sad old padre Arm in arm we'll walk at daybreak. Again I touch the green, green grass of home. Yes, they'll all meet together in the shade of that old oak tree As we neath indeed the green, green grass of home. |

I was standing by my window,
On one cold and cloudy day When I saw that hearse come rolling For to carry my mother away Will the circle be unbroken by and by, Lord, by and by There's a better home a-waiting in the sky, Lord, in the sky I said to that undertaker undertaker please drive slow for this lady you are carrying Lord, I hate to see here go Will the circle be unbroken by and by, Lord, by and by There's a better home a-waiting in the sky, Lord, in the sky Oh, I followed close behind her Tried to hold up and be brave But I could not hide my sorrow When they laid her in the grave Will the circle be unbroken by and by, Lord, by and by There's a better home a-waiting in the sky, Lord, in the sky I went back home, my home was lonesome missed my mother, she was gone all of my brothers, sisters crying what a home so sad and lone Will the circle be unbroken by and by, Lord, by and by There's a better home a-waiting in the sky, Lord, in the sky We sang the songs of childhood Hymns of faith that made us strong Ones that Mother Maybelle taught us Hear the angels sing along Will the circle be unbroken by and by, Lord, by and by There's a better home a-waiting in the sky, Lord, in the sky Will the circle be unbroken by and by, Lord, by and by There's a better home a-waiting in the sky, Lord, in the sky |

I am a poor wayfaring stranger,
wandering through this world of woe, and there's no sickness, no toil or danger in that bright land to which I go. I'm going there to meet my mother, she said she'd meet me when I come. I'm only going over Jordan, I'm only going over home. I'll soon be free from every trial, my body asleep in the old graveyard. I'll drop the cross of self denial, and enter on my great reward. I'm going there to meet my father, I'm going there no more to roam. I'm only going over Jordan, I'm only going over home. I am a poor wayfaring stranger, wandering through this world of woe, and there's no sickness, no toil or danger In that bright land to which I go. I'm going there to see my sister, she said she'd meet me when I come. I'm only going over Jordan, I'm only going over home. |

Just A Closer Walk With Thee
I am weak, but Thou art strong; Jesus, keep me from all wrong; I'll be satisfied as long As I walk, let me walk close to Thee. Just a closer walk with Thee, Grant it, Jesus, is my plea, Daily walking close to Thee, Let it be, dear Lord, let it be. Through this world of toil and snares, If I falter, Lord, who cares? Who with me my burden shares? None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee. Just a closer walk with Thee, Grant it, Jesus, is my plea, Daily walking close to Thee, Let it be, dear Lord, let it be. When my feeble life is o'er, Time for me will be no more; Guide me gently, safely o'er To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore. Just a closer walk with Thee, Grant it, Jesus, is my plea, Daily walking close to Thee, Let it be, dear Lord, let it be. |

In south carolina
There are many tall pines I remember the oak tree That we used to climb But it makes me feel better Each time it begins Callin' me home Hickory wind I started out younger At most everything All the riches and pleasures What else could life bring But now when I'm lonesome I always pretend That I'm gettin' the feel of Hickory wind It's a hard way to find out That trouble is real In a far away city With a far away feel But it makes me feel better Each time it begins Callin' me home Hickory wind Keeps callin' me home Hickory wind |
