INTRODUCTION

2003년 정규1집 발매 이후, 각종 해외 뮤직페스티벌 참여와 현지 앨범발매 등, 다양한 국내외 음악활동을 펼치며 월드와이드아티스트로서의 탄탄한 내공을 쌓아온 윈디시티가 2년만에 두번째 정규앨범 “Countryman's Vibration”을 발매한다.

글로벌경쟁시대에 촌사람(Countryman)이야기
TV, 라디오, 신문, 인터넷… 여기저기서 "경쟁"과 "경쟁력", "일등"과 "최고"를 외치는 이 시대. 유행이 유행을 넘어 이제는 왜 유행이고 무엇이 유행인지도 알 수 없는 빠른 시대. 주변에 어떤 일이 일어나던, 자신의 안위 외에는 아무것도 신경 쓰지 않는 외로운 이시대.
‘과연, 누구를 위한 경쟁, 누구를 위한 유행, 누구를 위한 시대인가? 그래서 우리는 지금 행복한가? 우리는 우리인생을 즐기고 있을까?’라는 질문으로부터 이 앨범의 발상이 시작되었다.
“촌사람”이란 단순히 “촌”에 사는 사람을 얘기하는 것이 아니다.
우리환경을 파괴하는 근본적인 공해가 자연스럽지 못한 삶의 태도와 도회적인 세련과 안락만을 쫓는 도시형인간을 양성하는 자연스럽지 못한 사회규범이라는 문제의식으로부터 출발한다면, 지금 우리에게 절실한 것은 진정 “자연스러운 인간” 즉, “촌사람”일 것이다.
또한, 빠르게 바뀌어만 가는 도시의 일상 속에서, 좀 더 느긋하게 주변을 돌아 보면서 자연을 존중하고 진정한 '정(情)'을 느낀다면 잃어버린 사랑과 낭만을 되찾을 수 있을 것 이라는 생각, 결국 윈디시티가 말하는 "촌사람의 감동"은 자연 속에서 자연답고 자연스러운 삶의 에티튜드를 말하는 것이며, 이것이 바로 이 앨범”Countryman's Vibration”의 모토이다.

이번 앨범은 레게(Reggae)라는 캐러비안의 음악에서부터 시작된 다양한 사운드와 새로운 음향기법들을 담고 있다. (자메이카로부터 비롯한 레게음악은 전세계적으로 펼쳐진 다양한 뮤지션들의 다양한 씬에도 불구하고, 그 근본적인 정체성은 흙과 자연으로부터 시작된 토속적인 뿌리를 가지고 있다.)
트랜드의 생산즉시 소비하고마는 태도와는 완전히 다르게, 겉의 번지르르함도 없고 세련되어 보이려 하지도 않으면서도, 그것만의 독특한 형식과 진정성으로 많은 이들에게 감동을 주고 있는 레게야말로, 자연과 더불어 사는 촌사람들의 삶이 담긴 촌사람들에 의한 음악이자 문화라고 할 수 있다.
무엇보다 이번 앨범에서 들어 볼 수 있는 윈디시티의 레게는, 자메이칸 레게의 일방적인 답습이 아닌, 한국의 서울에 사는 뮤지션들이 직접 느끼고 체화한 윈디시티만의 레게음악과 소카(소울칼립소)라는 점에서 그 의미가 더 크며, 이번 앨범은 아직은 걸음마단계인 한국 레게씬을 이끄는 중요한 사운드로서 그 Heavyweight함을 느껴볼 수 있다.

이번 앨범에는 레게의 모태가 되는 드럼비트인 nyabinghi 연주로 시작하는 “Countryman's Vibration”을 필두로, 앨범전체의 컨셉이자 댄서블한 레게비트가 특징인 “Countryman”, 레게의 러브무드곡lover's rock튠 “Silky Silky Love Song”, 기업들과 자본들의 협력으로 만들어진 전쟁에 대한 반전곡 “우리시대”, raggajungle의 윈디시티 스타일이라고 할 수 있는 “All Time Rockers”, 시원한 캐러비안 소카비트의 “Carnival (I'll Tek Kyu Deh!)” 윈디시티스타일의 dub기법을 들려주는 “Rising Sun”, 결국 우리가 말하고 싶은 것은 자유에 대한 갈망이라는 메시지의 “Freedom Blues” 등, 총 13곡을 수록되어있다.
이번 앨범의 특이한 점은 서울에 살고 있는 뮤지션과 런던에 살고 있는 뮤지션, 포토그래퍼와의 콜라보레이션인데 현재 이스트런던의 로칼씬에서 확고한 지명도를 얻어가고 있는 포토그래퍼 남페(NAMPEI)가 앨범의 사진과 아트웤을, 상당히 과격하고 특이한 스타일로 주목 받고 있는 런던REGGAE/DUB씬의 신예 GORGONN이 마지막 트랙인 “All Time Rockers (Rockers Dub)”의 Dub Mix를 담당하였다.
