INTRODUCTION
‘혼성그룹은 음악성이 낮고 깨지기 쉽다'는 통념을 깨고, 활동경력 10년을 훨씬 넘긴 Heart가 <Jupiters Darling>를 들고 2006년 8월 국내 팬들을 찾아왔다. 흔히 말하는 요새 젊은이들에겐 생소할지도 모르겠으나 어머니, 아버니 세대의 분들이 반겨 할 만한 뮤지션, 1975년 데뷔음반 Dreamboat Annie로 대히트를 기록한 혼성 락밴드 Heart.
혼성 락밴드 Heart는 언니 앤 윌슨(Ann Wilson, 1950년 생)과 기타리스트인 동생 낸시 윌슨(Nancy Wilson, 1954년 생) 자매의 카리스마를 바탕으로 레드 제플린(Led Zeppeline)으로부터 많은 영향을 받은 듯 꽤 직선적인 록을 외연으로 하면서도 내면에는 포크적인 부드러움과 유연함을 간직했었던 것이다. 대중성은 거기에 있었다. 그후 여러 음반의 성공과 실패를 거듭한 후 1980년 그룹명 ‘heart’를 셀프 타이틀로 하여 “heart”를 발표한다. ‘heart’는 이들이 70년대 중반 누렸던 인기를 능가하는 폭발적인 반응을 이끌어내며 빌보드 정상이라는 자리와 전세계적으로 음반판매고 500만장이라는 성공을 가져다 주었다. 본 앨범 Heart <Jupiters Darling>은 1993년에 발매한 “Desire Walks On,” 후 10년이 넘는 시간 후에 발매되는 스튜디오 음반으로, 앤과 낸시는 이 앨범에서 그들 음악의 본질을 다시금 보여준다.
Pearl Jam의 Mike McCready 가 "I'm Fine," "Down the Nile," "Led to One,"등에 참여하고, 전 Alice in Chains의 기타리스트 Jerry Cantrell이 "Fallen Ones."에 참여했다. 여전히 파워풀하고 다이나믹한 앤의 보이스와 하드하고 현란한 사운드를 들려주는 낸시의 여섯 현 기타소리는 예전보다 엄청난 사운드로 당신의 기대를 뛰어넘는 만족을 줄 것임에 틀림이 없다.
하트의 단연코 필수불가결하고 창조적인 락앤롤의 한 축임을 인식시키기에 충분한 앨범 Jupiters Darling 은 미국 발매 반에는 포함되어있지 않은, ‘Fallen Ones’의 Unplugged version과 데뷔음반 Dreamboat Annie의 track ‘How Deep It Goes’이 포함되어 있다.
